-----> Good spam blocker for Outlook/OE??? <-----

I figure most of you are smart and use the Google mail thingy but I still like my pop3! :)

So I was looking for a spam blocker for Outlook and or OE.

I was using "spambayes" for Outlook which does a nice job except that for some reason it has reset itself 3 times since I've installed it...so now I have to retrain it all day long so it knows the good from the bad

For my LT, running OE, I really like "Spamfighter" but I've used up my free time and I'd really like the features of the paid version BUT they want you to pay like $30 a YEAR!!

    Anyone have any suggestions?

I'd really like to be able to blacklist domains which spamfighter does (if you register).

I actually have no problems buying a good solution but I didn't want to have to pay $30 a year you know!!

    Thanks!

Are you running it through a mail server on your domain? If so, why not use Spamassassin and/or boxtrapper?

well sir, it's our ISP accounts, pop.sbcglobal.yahoo.com

I think I could set up the yahoo side to grab them but knowing my luck it would snag the good along with the bad.

Which wouldn't be a problem if I check the bulk folder occasionally.

did that answer your ?

I use spambrave, it's free if you allow their signature in all your outgoing mails, the other choice is paying for it

thanks, I'll check it out. that's how 'spamfighter' is once the trials runs out - sig in outgoing.

too bad for me that the best feature requires $...which like I said is ok with me but not once a year renewal

I use a little trick, I have my signature posted auomatically on every email, but under the signature I leave A LOT of empty lines, this way the software signature appears way below, and people think the email just finishes there :p

that's like the 'good guys' Outlook Express?

I've never tried it but it seems like a pretty popular client.

    you are welcome :)

I used thunderbird some years ago, I was very happy with it and with its spam control but files started getting corrupted now and then....had to fix it every time until finally I wasn't able to open it anymore and lost every email :(

yeah, I might have to just own up and PAY! I guess a yearly renewal isn't extremely uncommon, I'm just not used to it is all.
thanks. I might try something server side.

    CloudMark Desktop - cloudmark.com/desktop/

By far the BEST anti-spam I've ever used for Outlook or Outlook Express. Otherwise, if you can switch email clients, use Thunderbird as the adaptive and learning spam engine is great. :)

do you know if it can block domains? The reason I think that feature is important is I get the same 22 emails 77 times a week you know?

Yes, it can block (or allow) all kinds of things and since it's based on an anti-spam network of users, if someone finds spam and reports it, then you'll be protected from it as well. I've reported many myself and I've yet to receive more than maybe 3 spam emails a week in my inbox. :)

yeah, I like that feature for sure.

I'm not sure if I was "feeling it" though. I guess I cannot make a good judgement based on 17 minutes of use though!!

I need more patience for sure! good thing that while it is more expensive than Spamfighter, it covers 2 pc's instead of one...does that sound right?
