Does anyone know a simple script (or something) that I can put in one place and monitor stats on my website. I have tons of pages on the site and keep adding new ones - I don't want to have add a page counter to every single page. Is there a simple solution where I can just drop in one file or something that will give me some pretty good stats?
I second that, there's nothing better than Google Analytics, and it's free! All you need to do to take advantage of it is have a Google Account (free) and to upload a file to your web server (to verify that you're the owner) I use it on 2 of my sites and it's better than you can possibly imagine. Forget page counts, I know where my visitors come from, what browser version and operating systems they run and how they found my site. Good luck with it, it will be a lot of fun if you've never seen this sort of thing before
hehe can't agree more from two members above me .. what else beside Google Analytics? it's easy to install, just copy paste a simple javascript ...and wallah.. abracadabra .. done.. and also you can manage google to sent you a report by email ..
I think awstats(a log analyzer) is your best choice since you don't want to add statistics code to so many pages and you don't use SSI(server side include).
Yeah - but google says this: "Copy the following code block into every webpage you want to track immediately before the </body> tag." I have too many pages to add this to every single page. Also - I add new pages all the time. I need something I can just drop in once.
do you have a ton of static HTML pages? For me, I use wordpress (because I have lots of pages) and so I simply tossed the code into my template, which means it gets served with every page that wordpress creates, as long as I continue to use that theme. If you have a plentitude of pages that make changes like this difficult, you really ought to look into some PHP and SQL scripts like Wordpress or Joomla so manage your content so you have the flexiblity to changes things like this with ease. Both are available freely.
I use Clicky Analytics for my stats. It gives lets me watch the visitors interact with my site in real time, which is awesome during an influx of traffic, like a Digg front page. Also, Clicky's stats are not latent like Google Analytics. I don't have to wait for aggregates stats. It's free for a month with full features, and the Spy feature is disabled if you don't opt for one of their plans. getclicky.com (aff)
sounds like you should look into converting to a cms, with wordpress you coudl even preserve all your urls. With wordpress you can do just that plop one section of google analytics code in and get stats for every page. For more cms options google opensourcecms.
