Good SEO ranking without backlinks?

Hi, I was just reading an e-book in which the author states that with themed content you can rank well in Google without the need of buildings backlinks. I was wondering if this is true or if I am wasting my time just writing themed articles without building any backlink to the pages.

 

There are pages that can rank without any back links, but typically these are for less competitive key phrases. I would focus on creating the best unique quality content you can and then marketing it. If you consistently do this then back links should come.

 

Well, in theory it is hard to rank high for pages that do not have backlinks. As for the author, he's basing his success on an area with low competition for which he writes content on his own, any of user/fan base would probably be building the links for him rather than himself. I would say you do both - good content + link building.

 

Ranking without backlinks is like standing in a soundproof room and screaming for help.

Personally, I think that it is grossly irresponsible of people to pass on the message that if you simply create content, people will come.

We are in the Web, not downtown! haha people dont find you on the web, they search, or they hear about you somehow, generally involving the creation of a backlink.

Here's the thing. If you create AWESOME content that your visitors love, and shoot some links to it, then as more and more people like, thank, and share the content, it might seem more important, and through the way that the Google algorithm works, it might rank higher. Somehow. But it can work. If that makes sense.

In a nutshell... dont just write content. Share it too. Its gotta be heard somehow.

 

Sometimes some people want to try a different thing to attract people. Don't believe on it. You can rank without doing off page seo. Did he not give some sites in example? please share them also. Link building, forum posting, blog commenting, social bookmarking, profile creation on social bookmarking websites etc all are done with a purpose of getting backlinks.

 

I'm building gaming site and have only few backlinks. 20-30

but my site appears top 5 for many kewords

 

If done properly, themed articles can get you good traffic.

But without backlinking the rate of success would be comparatively low.

 

i think it would be almost impossiable without backlinks to rank. Everyone does backlinks from big to small sites compet. to none compet keywords. Mabey some rank but have to get good content.

 

If you have a keyword domain and its not to competative you can rank without backlinks
example flhxxx.com just a few links from a forum no other links list #3 for flhxxx
I had a few list with 0 backlinks more competative then this keyword

 

The writer of that book most likely means if you write quality content that your readers enjoy they will share it for you. So you will natural build backlinks of your content is good and your readers are gettting what they want from it.

You dont have to build the links yourself if your content is good enough for other people to build them for you.

He probably pays for his visitors then, or doesn't pay attention to analytics.

 

Partly true and partly false. If you have good content, you will obviously get linked somewhere or the other, which will obviously gain you rankings. Social media being a prominent ranking signal, in future the role of high PR back links will come down,

No links is like a business without not just advertising, but without even a sidewalk or phone--no one can get there even if they knew about you (other than directly typing in your URL).

 

Thanks, all this info helped me decide that I need to learn how to create good quality backlinks. I have been focusing only on on-page SEO, no wonder I was not getting much traffic. The author of the e-book is Andy Williams, heard he was well known for promoting the importance of themed articles. Anyone read his e-book: "Creating Fat Content"? If you did, what do you think of it? I liked his ideas, but now I understand it was half of the truth.

you just need to find a niche with few people writing about it.
