So, I was doing some competitive research and I found a website that is ranking number 1,2, and three for almost 20 keywords. The traffic adds up all together to over a hundred thousand that are searching those keywords. According to compete.com, they are only getting around 2,000 visitors a month on average. Why are they getting such a low amount of visitors a month? Ranking in such high spots, shouldn't they be seeing more traffic? Will will you guys explain.
No tool can give you exact amount of searches. Even Google Awords tool includes searches using Google api on sites so the amount on adwords tool isn't just Google searches, too. And compete.com isn't that precise, too. But there is another issue, too: CTR isn't same on every #1 SERP position. It depends on Title and excerpt, too. Sometimes good title and excerpt will attract more visitors to click on particular result, but some title will not be interesting/informative/etc so visitor can go to #5 #8 etc. They might have bad Title and snippet, maybe.
Thanks for the help. So how do you gain an overall estimate of traffic for a product? Is it pretty much an educated guess, or are there other determining factors?
Negative. There are many impressions which are empty... created by bots and competitors. And just because you rank well doesn't mean that people will click through to your site.
Right. Some people do consider the snippets of your title in search results. If they don't like the displayed description, they may not click your site.
The most accurate stats are the ones you get from your own host..... Of course, after your site is up....
