will google or yahoo penalize me for the following: Purchasing 6 domains with a keyword rich URL, then creating a homepage with links pointing to my site; each of the 6 domains will be hosted seperately on one of those shared hosting services like godaddy, powweb, etc.... Any help is most appreciated!
You won't get penalised for it, but it'll do you sod all good whatsoever. In order to give the other domains some weight you'll have to get some links to point at them. You may as well just get those links to point to your main domain. By buying several domains you're actually creating extra work for yourself, not making things easier.
If your after PR, you'll need to buckle down and build some relevant, original content. Don't copy content because google will see that it is dup content.
all domains will be hosted from different hosting providers so i hope they will all be from different IPs and content is unique across the 6 domains and the links on each domain will all be pointing to different pages in my main domain...hopefully there will be a benefit as each hosting service is charging me $4.95 per month hehe
are you saying have the sites available for a month without links to my main domain then create the links to my main domain?
It doesnt seem to worth the effort I would do six different sites and after getting some page rank link them My opinion

If you did this on a large scale (100 domains or more) and got them indexed and then pointed at your site, it may be worth bothering.
i dont think that it will be reason for google punishment but build backlinks will be very difficult for you
Your site won't be penalized, but your effort won't pay off that much. Search engines pay much more attention to link quality than quantity. All the new domains/sites you created don't have any quality in the eyes of search engines. So, links from those sites are not worth much.
You should be fine. Purchasing six domains and paying for separate hosting for each of them seems a little pricey to me. It would be easier to just purchase six links on other peoples sites.
