Thanks but i am more wondering what makes it more expensive to run joomla vs old HTML/CSS

To run it? Nothing. You can run either one on a $3/month host (or even some free hosts).

To get one written? A CMS is cheaper, because you install it, then write your own content. You don't pay anything to get it written. Unless you can write your own HTML/CSS, you have to pay someone to write a HTML/CSS site.

Now do you mean cheaper in the longer run or short term?

Of course, its cheaper to design and develop the website in CSM system like joomla because you save money for code writing, you just insert your content in joomla system and manage use all extensions, plugins. Only you need to invest some money for good template because those free ones never meet your requirements.

The price of a custom template depends on the time it takes to create it. (You're paying by the hour, whether the price is quoted that way or by the total job.) Cheap is $50-$200, depending on what you get. Expensive is as much as you want to pay. (And by "as much" I mean just that - if you want something that takes 4 weeks to do, you're going to pay at least a few thousand dollars.) If you want changes after you see it the first time, that costs still more.

The developer gets paid by a few hundred people if it's not custom, so $100 gets him a lot of money. If you want it done just for you, you're going to pay the same total price that he'd get for a non-custom one.

That's 2 days of work. Customizing and installing a site in 2 days isn't unusual.

So in general would you say $900 is a "fair" price for a joomla website? Btw thank you a lot for answering my questions

It depends on what you're getting. To install it as is and let you customize it? It's a rip-off. To customize it for you? That depends on how much work you want done. It could run from $50 for basic setup to thousands for a lot of custom work. You're asking how much to pay for a restaurant dinner. A hamburger? Filet? Do the waiters wear jeans or tuxedos? It's not a question that has one simple answer.

If the person doing it is someone who has done it before, but has no other qualifications, $15/hour is probably fair, and it's probably going to be a few hours of work. If it's someone who's going to be writing custom code, and has been writing code for 10 years, $50/hour is low, and it could be a week's work or more.

Paying someone to analyze what you need and tell you how much you should be paying and what kind of person you need to do the work may actually save you money in the long run. (If you need custom coding, and you hire someone who's just going to install the site, you've thrown $50 in the trash, and you'll be all bent out of shape. That same $50 can tell you what you really need - and if the person is honest and all you need is installation, he'll do that for you for that $50.)

Joomla is great once you have it all set up. You can add new pages very quickly and it is easy for non-tech people to manage content. I like it

At the moment I am experimenting with using various free templates in joomla and also I would like to learn to use gantry framework as a very flexible template with a lot of positions for modules.

Joomla is better than HTML because of its user friendly.
