Good methods to develop back links

till date i never noticed any traffic from blogs ........so i feel (my opinion ) blog submissions are nt worth the time we spend

I run a member site so writing articles of interest to the general public [i.e. social bookmark worthy] so it looks like I will have to go down the Widget / Tools route

Only if you submit them to many directories, not just one or two.

Directories do NOT help with page rank anymore, as of googles new terms, they do not count or consider links from directories in account for determining pagerank, because they find it a cheat to be able to 'buy' a pagerank.

As for other ways, Link exchange, social bookmarking, and article submissions are the best ways.
