A good product sells itself is popular saying, but marketers strongly disagree with this statement. This is because even when a product is good, it still needs to be advertised.

Marketing strategy has to do with knowing what to do at the right time, how to do it and when to do it. When a product is good and also has good marketing strategy, the sky is the limit for that product.

A product may be good but will not sell due to lack of good marketing strategy. For example, when the product that is supposed to target student has gone to the work place instead of campuses.

A good marketing strategy should know the people that are in need a particular product and why they need the product. Then design a good advertisement that assures the satisfaction of the need of that people. Letting them know that the product is designed to help them and that the product is good.

It is very important to know where to channel your ad, when your ad should be on the internet, there is no need to go to the TV or radio to advertise. For example, when you have a product that is targeted for internet users, you don't need to waste more money going to the TV since they charge more because of the large audience of which most of them are not net users. But you just need to do your ad on the internet and be sure that you spend less and 90% will be interested on your service since they are net users.

Most people fail to have a good marketing strategy and this has affected their business negatively. While others fail to identify their target population and this is too bad.
