I would have to steer you away from paid links as google frown hevily on paid links and you could find your self shelling out good money and haveing no gain bar maybe some traffic from that site.

    Another Google FUD agent...
Flexin, of course, Google will ban your site if you don't know what you are doing and have no experience in link building.

If you buy where there are other people buying, then you have a bigger chance of getting caught.

Do research, find who you want links from and give them a call or drop an email.

Exactly, that's why you don't buy from brokers that show there inventory :)

Even then it isn't without risk.

It's easy enough for Google to pretend to be Bob Smith who wants to buy a link and get sent an inventory.

I tend to keep away from paid link markets altogether though I am sure some people are having success with them still.

    Rob,

I run a very reputable company and I will tell you this any site ranking on competitive terms are buying links, and we work with some big brands put it this way brands that are advertise through tv commercials and etc.

Also what's the difference as you building link through link exchange then buying links...

There's a big difference between a "paid link" and a "paid link market."

I would probably agree that most sites ranking for competitive terms have paid links depending on the vertical you are talking about. There are some very harsh examples of hand jobs by Google penalising the hell out of widget and paid links in specific industries (look at the 2007 SEO industry Google hand job in Australia for example)

And I don't do link exchanges generally anyway but the difference is that Google allows link exchanges (to an extent) and disallows the other. Sure that only matters if you get caught, but it's still a difference.

It really comes down to a risk-reward ratio. I have no particular problem with paid links, but if you are silly about it, you will probably get caught eventually. The amount of risk you take is up to you, but it is a risk. :)
