I'm really trying to better understand the concept of internal linking. I know it's important but I want to see sites that are considered to have good internal links. If anyone has some examples I'd love to see them. thx
I believe there are 2 ways of good internal linking. You can either link every word that's possible to an article on your site in an article, or only link relevant words. Eg. 1. A congenital heart defect is an abnormality of the heart that has been present from birth. Children born with heart disease, who once would not have survived, now reach adolescence and adulthood as a result of advances in cardiac surgery and medicine. First link to your article about the heart. Second link to your article on heart disease. Third link to your article on cardiac surgery. Or you could just link to directly relevant articles (keeping the page more relevant for a specific term - congenital heart defect in this case. So remove the links from the example above because they aren't directly to 'heart defects'. Hope this makes sense. It's entirely up to you. I believe the first is good though. It's good for your users if they wish to learn more about the various words mentioned and linked to. Here's a little tip: Reading through your content often brings up ideas for new content, because you can think which words you could create articles for and then link to from other articles. It's a great way of coming up with new keywords that are related to your content. Obviously you wouldn't create a page on adulthood in this example as it's not exactly related to the subject at hand, but I'm sure you know what I mean - you could create an article on heart defects in adulthood though, or heart defects in adolescance, and then link to them as the link in this paragraph.
