I just wanted to point this out since I like being with a company that at least responds to their customers issues. It appears the mail servers were brought down for a time yesterday and they came right out and told us (I never noticed). I have no affiliation with uplinkearth other than I use them as my host. Please see email below: *********************************************************** Please Note: This notice is being sent to you because you have an active domain registration or hosting account with uplinkearth. Please do not respond directly to this e-mail as it is sent from a non-existent notification address. Please follow the directions in the body of the e-mail for all responses to this message. *********************************************************** As you are aware for a brief period yesterday November 9, 2006 mail delivery to all domains was interrupted. The issue has been fully resolved as of 4:30 PM ET on November 9th. We would like to provide you with a more detailed explanation of what caused the problem and how it was addressed. WHAT CAUSED THE SERVICE INTERUPTION? At some time in the early morning of November 9th a set of two blacklists that are managed and operated by monkeys.com took it upon themselves to list every IP address on the internet in their blacklists. Their blacklists, along with several others, are used by our mail solution to identify and eliminate incoming spam. The effect of this organization's choice to blacklist the entire internet caused our mail servers to reject all inbound mail. This affected not only uplinkearth mail servers but the mail servers of numerous ISPs and Hosting companies around the world. WHAT WAS DONE TO RESTORE SERVICE? We received reports that inbound mail was not being delivered and our network team immediately began to run diagnostics on the servers and network hardware to attempt to isolate the cause. It was subsequently identified that the issue was the monkeys.com blacklists and they were removed from the configuration of all of our mail servers. Immediately following this mail delivery returned to normal. Mail that was rejected during this period must be resent as the messages, having been rejected, are not on our servers or within our ability to retrieve. WHAT IS BEING DONE TO AVOID THIS SITUATION IN THE FUTURE? As we cannot control the actions of independent, 3rd party unregulated blacklists we cannot guarantee you will not be affected by future events. However, this is an extremely rare occurrence and has never been experienced to date by anyone that we are aware of. However, we are in the process of updating our existing mail infrastructure to implement a better, more reliable Anti-Spam system which would not have been affected by this particular situation as it does not rely on external 3rd party blacklists. Best Regards, Charles LaPadula Chief Operating Officer
i would suggest you to use good hosts, probably go for big companies who care for clients more, and they would be rather more caring to you, as they want to keep their name and reputation alive.
