Good free email services

I registered a Yahoo account a few months ago and now I can't access my mail unless I give them my phone number. They didn't require it upon registration - what an awful bait-and-switch!

Do you know any good alternative email services?

(I already use Gmail. They also decided to require phone verification for new accounts some time ago; hopefully they won't bother already registered users.)

Of course I do. And I don't want to give it away. I'm too paranoid. :)

Do you think Google is going to call you for anything other than if you lose control of your email account and be to verify your identity? :)

Just buy a $15-$20 throw away phone and make a half dozen accts with it.

I'm with you I think it is just data mining. With a tel # for most people that is a link to a real name and address, along with info from the cookies it becomes valuable marketing info. In the future (or maybe even now) Law enforcement can tap into this info also.

Try outlook, they don't need phone verification. Go to 10minutemail.com, generate one email ID, add as alternate email, verified it, done.

P.S - now, don't see me like spammer :p xD
