    Anyone know one?
To manage mailing lists and email "courses" where users signup and then receive an email every day/week that takes them through a particular series of prepared text. That kind of thing

    Thanks

I use a free autoresponder from infinite autoresponder. You need to set up a mysql database, run the sql script to set up the tables, set up the cronjobs but it's free.

I think out of all getresponse is the best. But you should
go with paid. Aweber is highly recommended.

getresponse isn't free anymore, I found that this one http://infinite.ibasics.biz is still free and up, but is there any other better? I also looked at PHPLIST.COM which is not exactly an autoresponder, but looks more professional while being free and open source, but does it mean infinite.ibasics.biz is not, I haven't tried any yet, is there any major other player in the free and self hosted autoresponder available options?

Hi, freeautobot is free. But I would encourage you to go for a professional paid autoresponder. Most free autoresponders include an advertisement in the email or have strict limitations on the number of messages you can send. Check out Aweber and GetResponse if you need a reliable service.

I have a feeling you encourage me to use paid autoresponders only because of the affiliate links you provide!! Without knowing the size of my current list it's strange to recommend a paid service.
freeautobot looks terribly not trustable, honestly I've been scared when I went to the freeautobot dot com so I didn't go as far as checking the price or lack thereof because I'm looking for a recommendation for a free autoresponder php&mysql script, not a hosted service.
At first it's better to manage it myself and then when the lists grow I can switch to a paid service, it's not cheap!

I've used this autoresponder before I switched over to a paid service.
    http://www.responsebot.com

The free version gives you up to 2,000 subscribers, which I think is plenty if you're starting out.

Hi, I am not encouraging you because I wished to earn a commission but rather for a more forward looking solution. It would be good if you bought through that and I do not deny but that is not my intention.

If you have used any free autoresponder before, you would know that in the long run, with no guarantee in the send-through rate, and when your list starts to grow beyond that size, it could be difficult to switch. I have friends who lost their entire lists...At the same time, you wouldn't want your subscriber to know that you are using a free autoresponder if you truly want to build a business and reputation on a long term basis.

Unless you are using it purely for a hobby or interest in that effect, maybe the free option is still alright. That said, there are many cheap or even free autoresponder scripts online if that is what you are looking for.

Hi thanks for the reply, it's not for me specifically the affiliate links, but for future visitors of this thread entitled Good Free Autoresponder.

Well you say that there are many ... even free autoresponder scripts, as far as I have found them there is only Infinite Responder, and PhpList could do it if there was a sequential message system, but at the moment it's not yet implemented.
So I'm stuck with two choices. I understand what you're saying about aweber for example, it's recommended lots of time. But for starters (can be one year to several) it's ok if we can find the most recommended free script that we can install on our webserver. If that is at the moment infinite responder, then I'm done looking, but maybe there's another open source project with more than one developper??
