the funny thing is absolutely nobody outside the webmaster/seo world gives a damn how much PR a site has

:) getting some great responses from people

I believe that the big 3 search engines (possibly Ask too) have there own PR system, only Google shows theres publicly, in an extremely vague way.

Ask yourself this question, 'why did you download the Google toolbar?' was it for the quick search function? the auto fill option? the nifty pop up blocker? I can bet that 9/10 of you downloaded it to see PR because you feel you need to. The Alexa toolbar gives you about the same info but a lot of people don't feel they need to have that.

Google do encourage you to obtain PR to help your site in the SERPs taking straight from here http://www.google.com/technology/

Now that's either a posh way to say 'links are everything, Baby!' or there pushing on PageRank making you think you need the toolbar, to see your PR because it's the Alpha and the Omega of there Algo. Nobody forces you to download the Google toolbar (unless you buy a Dell) but the clever Viral marketing based upon PR makes you feel you can't live without it.

I don't use the Google Toolbar, I use the Groowe Toolbar and a Firefox extension to check PR because I need to know it for clients

Watch out, Big Brother is watching

Page rank is as usefull as the link:www.domain.com query on yahoo.

They are just a measure of link love. Its just a scale to measure lovely links. You got to love the links.

People who love pagerank are people who create excellent sites that dont need any link building strategy. Just make the good content and other people will link to you. Love those links.

You probably hate pagerank if you regularily send emails to random websites requesting link exchanges.

So you either love it or hate it?

It judges how good you have been the past year ;)

If you had been worried about rankings instead of PR you wouldn't need to sell links. Or at least you could get more. How much does a link go for on a site that makes $100,000/month? Think that over....
