Hy there, I made myself a directory about 6 month ago( using phpLD script). It's doing ok for now, with a pr 4 and around 40 submissions a day..but I was wondering, how can i really make it work? Cause i'm out of ideas...I think i did all i know. So if anyone can give me some usefull suggestion i would be really gratefull. What is a good ammount of traffic for a directory, and how can you achieve it? Oh and any comments on how it looks are welcomed. The link is : http://www.pegasusdirectory.com
This is a good place to tell people about your directory. Im sure you will get alot of submissions from here. I added 3 directories
1)Add your link in our directories increase link popularity and traffic with business. 2) Advertise on our directory and get more than 10,000 link popularity in less than a month, traffic, and business.
Try to get in some of the more popular directory lists like Vile Silencer's, Directorycritic.org, articletrader.com, and whatever the other ones around here are. I can't remember right now, but look aroubd this forum and you should find plenty.
wow...really interesting tool..just tested it..it doesn't look too good for me my link was found in only 5 directorys . I think i'll have to start submitting these days...
I think webmaster forums are a great start to get people to see your directory. So asking here and several other places would definately help. I am new to directories myself, and have only been in it for 1 month now. oh btw, I added 2 websites to your directory. Rob
I think you should definitely make more sub categories. some of your major categories are sooo packed. generally i don't submit if there are more then 15 or so links on a page. i prefer as few links as possible. also maybe get rid of the reciprocal linking for now. i don't usually submit to directories that require a reciprocal unless it has high PR. mainly because i do not see any value in it. I am going to place my link on a low over crowded PR page, and then place your link on a PR4 page. its just not worth it. hope the advice helps.
yup, it helps thx for the advice 1.i had some other complains about the cathegories being too few...and i want to put some more, but i really don't know what about..any idea where i could find some examples of cathegories that need to be put? 2.the reciprocal link is not required( no red star, see? ). it's there for the ones that want to put one. I usually review the links submitted once a day and accept them if they are good, regardless if they have a reciprocal link .
Sorry, then it seems i overlooked your directory submission, i thought the reciprocal link was required. But because i made this mistake, other will too. make it clear that it is not required. I would also start by putting your site in your signature. that alone will help increase IBLs. Not significantly, but its effortless and takes two seconds and can help! so why not. in terms of categories. just look at other "quality" directories. check out site-sift, or alivedirectory. those are both good examples. It might help you go through your listings and see if you can categorize them more. it will take some time, but building a quality directory is not an overnight process. here is another example. i run telecom sites. you could add a category under business > telecommunications. Right now the only place i could realistically list my sites is under business>services, or Shopping>electronics. neither of these are particularly good niche categories for my site. also they are both way over crowded. If you were to add new sub-categories, i would submit in a second. you can tell you directory has potential based on your attitude towards improving it and well ranking PR. Always continue to build backlinks!
Time will improve the traffic on your site as well. After awhile your directory starts being picked up in other directory lists. Also, I noticed a big jump in search engine traffic once I paid the piper and submitted to some established directories. Good luck, I'm personally really looking forward to the next PR update.
