I average in the 8% on CTR and am pleased with that. The problem I encountered today was that the EPC was down. It had been around .40 USD and today was about .25 USD. What could have caused that? I did have an influx of non USA traffic compared to my normal day. I'm pretty green here so any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Google automatically adjusts the pricing of the advertisement. That way they make sure that the advertiser is still earning good money. If they weren't then they would stop advertising with Google Adsense which is not what Google wants. That's why they lower the price of the Adsense units on your website. You name that smart pricing which is really sucky for every advertiser... However, due to the current economical crisis everyone is getting less.
How many clicks did you get for that $0.40? Your CTR is irrelevant if you're only getting a few PIs per day. Also, what niche are you in as that will affect how much you get paid per click. Try targetting higher paying keywords to get more money per click
It's just part of adsense to adjust the ecpm accordingly and to protect advertisers as well. Don't forget, they do monitor whether those clicks will convert into sales on the advertisers' part. Try to put aside this issue because this is something out of your control. I mean ctr of 8% is really good enough.
Well if you're getting 100 clicks and $0.25 you need to report it to Google, as you've obviously got someone repeatedly clicking your ads, which could get you banned. I bet around 90% of those clicks are invalid, because I thought the employment niche was pretty high paying?
The amount of unique visitors is pretty high so I don't think there is click fraud involved. I may need to change some of my content to grab a higher paying ad via adsense.
To clarify, I was averaging about .40USD per click not .40USD per day and now it is averaging about .25USD per click. I may not have been very clear in my initial post.
Ah OK, I thought you were saying you got $0.25 from 100 clicks, that's why I was a little confused Like you say, just target higher paying keywords. If you do that then you'll get more per click which could turn into some serious money if you apply your current methods to a high paying niche (ie. $1-2 per click)
I honestly do not know the truth about higher paying keywords. I see conflicting information on this site and others. Does google offer any info on this?
