I run a blog on blogger and i am searching for a host to store its media files (mp3, mp4,3gp) and streaming mp3 files. Till now i was using free file hosts but now i want to give a professional look to my blog, so i need a server where i can store these files and hotlink them. I dont want to move my blog from blogger and just want host for files. I need a space of about 50GB and 500GB bandwidth. I have a very tight budget because i have not started advertising on my blog till now I talked to number of hosting providers but they said that they will not allow content hosting. please tell me which hosting provider or file hosting website can privide me this service
A lot/most hosts don't allow file hosting. If you can't find any, a VPS is always an option. You can normally use the disk space as you see fit. As well, if the media files are copyrighted (and don't belong to you), you'll run into an issue with that as well. You will need to look at offshore hosting if that is the case.
copyright is not a problem from me as these are my files. Can you please tell me about offshore hosting and the companies who provide it. My Users are mainly in South-east Asia
If copyright or legality is not an issue, then you shouldn't need to go "offshore". I have done some file hosting with GoDaddy and have never had a problem with them. Their rates are good, transfer speed is reasonable, and I haven't had any problems with users not being able to download files from them. They have been fine with me holding domains with nothing other than files stored on them with their shared hosting plans. As long as you don't have real heavy peak times where you are causing other sites on the shared server to have slow loading, I think you would be just fine using them. If nothing else, you can start out with them, and if you run into a problem, look for another solution. They have month-to-month plans and let you point your domain name registered with them to another host without any hassle, so switching to another host should be a fairly easy process if they get upset that you are using their service to let your users download files. Another option you may want to look at is Amazon. Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) is designed specifically for file hosting. Some very large companies use Amazon for hosting content on their sites. Amazon offers free usage for new customers so you can try out their service. Amazon S3 will let you choose a region for your files to be hosted at (fees vary from region to region). Since you mentioned your users are primarily geo-Asia, you could take advantage of one of their two APAC regions, Singapore and Tokyo.
Using the right type of web site hosting service is so serious to your success. Contact support of the company you are planning to deal with and ask them about the hosting solution you need.
Actually only my 5% mp3 files can have a problem of copyright but others are mine. For those 5% i contacted its copyright holder several times but he didn't even replied me to say "no" although i was ready to pay him per download. Earlier i contacted the godaddy for this problem but they said that minimum solution for me is a vps. I like the vps of inmotion but currently i cant afford $50 vps or cdn as there are no advt. on my blog So can you please tell me about these offshore providers
in mediafire bronze plan it is written 100gb/month direct linking does it have any disk space limit also and can i upgrade the plan in middle if i pay for full year
I suppose that you need to compare all possible options suitable for your specific needs and then choose the best option.
How they can be in top 3. Bluhost dosent have vps or dedicated hosting so you cant host high traffic there. I heard that hostmonster has uptime related issues (Dont know much about it as it also have only shared hosting) Hostgator says that you should use vps for dedicated for streaming. By the way how is This file sharing website "Opendrive". Its plans seems to be good Is it reliable. I read some boxstr related issues with it I like box.net as it is ok for me and gives 2tb bandwidth in $99/year but they accept only credit card and i can only pay by paypal or wire transfer
