GoLexa.com......My new search tool

    Hi,
    First time poster.....long time visitor.

Just for Kix, I made a search tool. It's at www.GoLexa.com, could you
please give it a test drive and let me know what you think of it's features.

    Here's a little Background: Google + Alexa = GoLexa
I get the feed from Google using the API Liscense Key (I'm only allowed 1000 queries a day). I get the thumbnail feed form Alexa.com (Compliant with their TOS).

Don't expect it to be of TOP professional grade, I'm new to PHP, it has a few minor bugs, but I don't have the php know-how yet to fix them.

The main selling point: "The Search Tool with Complete Page Analysis for each Result" this allows you to analyze each result for various things....you'll see what I mean. It's probably more benificial to webmasters and site owners rather than your average surfer.

    www.GoLexa.com

    Thanks,
    ED

Sounds like a good learning experience but what is the purpose? Alexa uses Google for its results. Many webs listed in Alexa have no thumbnail. Suspect there may be a better place to pull thumbnails. Shawn uses ?.

    Have fun and happying coding.

Hi Shannon...thanks for commenting.....this pretty much started out as a simple search tool gone MAD!!!!

    What is the purpose?
*To be unique....don't all search engines pretty much do the same thing?
*You can analyze a page for various types of information (keywords, link pop) "from one place".
*You can easily analyze your competitors pages.
*You can check sites PR on the fly...Go to "Big Thumbs + PR" link
*If you do a site:www.yoursite.com * It'll list just "your" pages to be analyzed
*You can recommend a page to a friend without having to do it from the actual page
*You can monitor a page for changes without having to do it from the actual page

thumbshots.org provides thumbnails also, but if they don't have the thumb, it leaves a blank. Alexa provides a "picture coming soon" image, which I thought looked better than a blank.

    Uses......search + entertainment
    Thanks,
    ED

So much information, combined with the Google engine, makes it a winner for me. I bookmarked it and will use it in the future.

Im also working in the webdesign and seo business and information about the server a website is on, included in a Google engine, is a nice feature for me.

    Please keep it up!

    Thanks Dirkjan....
It's funny you should mention the "information about the server a website is on". I was playing around seeing what server OS some of the big websites use and found out the new Microsoft Search (http://search.msn.com/) runs on Linux. Seems like they'd have more confidence in their own product.

    Thanks murugan,
Yea, I debated on if I should go with the big thumbnails and try to spread things out, but the big thumbs loaded slower and took up more page space. I also tried resizing the thumbs a bit larger but that distored the images. i'll add some spaces to spread it out alittle...

Well, I agree that it looks a bit rough round the edges but by God! That Site Report by Netcraft is brilliant! How have I missed that before now? How accurate is it?

Oh no! Another toy to play with. I am doomed!

It's a bit heavy on the eyes but it does combine all the useful stuff indeed.

Could you make it so it shows the domain's IP address?

Thanks to all for the comments....much appreciated.

TOPS30 heres the link to the Microsoft search issue:
    http://toolbar.netcraft.com/site_report?url=http://search.msn.com/

Note: Just click on the "Site Report" button for the IP, this is also where you'll find the server info.

I've been in the process of trying to space out some of the buttons to reduce the clutter look....

I've been on a decluttering mission, but it's hard to have all the features without that "busy look". I made some changes last night, but if anyone has any suggestions or ideas on the best way to organized it, I'd be willing to listen. I'd like to retain the use of graphics (instead of text) so I can use the ALT text for a brief explanation.
    Thanks,

Since you are using google api, does this mean you can only do 1000 searches a day?

I'm guessing so, but I read somewhere that if you request more, sometimes google will grant you more. I've never hit 1000 to find out.
