going to start new (old) business

    Hello

    i'm going to start new business (new for me) - file sharing site.

    i know, that there are 10-30 Popular such sites ( and 10 000 fresh new such sites),

    My points are:
    * have nice-short domain for it
    * hosting (for the fist time )
    * and few ideas how to promote this site, that's why i'm going to start it...

    just have few questions:


    1. as i don't know this business well, very interesting how much u can make having ~500-1000 uniq users/per day

    2. does file sharing sites corrupt any copyright rules and are they legal?

    IMHO, No

    3. i know, that a some hosters don't allow to host such file sharing sites, do you have any information about "HUGE" hosters (such as HostDepartment, hostgator, dreamhost, ect) .

    any advise, pls

    hmm

    at first check wikimedia : "file sharging" and "file hosting"

    is seems, that what i need is "One-click hosting". like rapidshare, MegaUpload, etc

    it is difficult to host such a site and promote it. I don't think it is a good idea. Still, some people with warez sites have so much traffic that their server cannot hold it :D . But it is mostly illegal. Friendly advice, find another niche.

    If you are doing "file hosting" they you should be ok. "File sharing" is a big no-no. Anyways, for hosting checkout http://www.steadfast.net (but email them and ask if its ok first). They have some great VPS deals and awesome prices on 20mbps unmetered dedicated servers on their value network. For advertising, I would submit a press release, list at free-webhosts.com, advertise on image hosting sites and large forums, some light ppc, link exchanges, etc. You can get some nice 3 / 4 character domains here and at namepros.com for less than $100.     regarding hosting
    i don't had any problem for the first time. (if it's is legal )

    i ask about "HUGE" hosters, as i don't know, how much traff and space such sites "eat".

    regarding domain:
    just now, i have domain for it (5 character, but related name :))

    regarding promotion:

    500-1000 uniques per day should bring in < $5. Do you have a script yet? If not, http://yabsoft.com/mfhs-feature.php seems like a nice one.
