GoDaddy, was very surprised after I bought my domain

GoDaddy is very cheap with good hosting plans. I bought a domain today w/ a hosting plan and was very surprised on how fast it set up. The hosting plan was set up within 15 minutes, when I was thinking it would be over 5 hours.
I heard some problems with godaddy like they overload their servers, and stuff like that, but I never experienced slow-ness on my sites like that. Anyways, I was just surprised with godaddy, sitting here eating a nutroll, and thought i'd share the news.

Get your site some traffic and then check back.

yeah, I agree... try having a site with any real traffic and you will watch godaddy drop off like a bad habit. They are ok for small sites but they only go up to a certain amount of tbandwidth per month which turns out to be less than I use in a 1/2 a day... but for just starting out you are right, they arent bad....

That's right. I like dreamhost too. Their plans are really cheap.

but are they into dedicated servers, yet? ;)

GoDaddy is fine with domain names but hosting if you do much more than html you may be in for a surprise. I added optional ColdFusion functionality and they had an incomplete install and advised me to install ColdFusion core files in my web root. Now I am trying to teach them about application frameworks so they can properly administer the server.

I experienced something similar - when I queried them about mod_rewrite exploit on linux servers, the customer service response was that I could pay a technical guy to check into it ... hmm, forgive me for being foolish, but there are over 950 other hosted accounts on the same server, so is it my job to ensure their security? or is it the server host?

only 950? I had thousands....for both my sites. Anyhow yes, Godaddy *might* sound good looking at their price but if its' too good to be true...it is too good to be true ;)

GoDaddy ended up being SlowDaddy... I had to move away from their hosting, I was sick and tired of the slowness and the fact I had to buy a new hosting account each time I bought a domain! :(
If you have more than one domain, Dreamhost is awesome :)

Well from my experience godaddy are good for domains only, once your site eat up their traffic they will try to kick you out asap.

i agree on domain management... i use godaddy for this alone. no worry about having high pr url scammed by hosting company. for hosting they are toooo expensive. I think they are not trying to target people who have to worry about return on hosting investment

    Godaddy - great for domains.

For hosting, use globat.com. (notice, no referral link :))

They are extremely cheap, offer 24 hour service with live chat support, and great package deals that will support your every need.

I'm paying about $100 a year for 25000 MB disk space and 300 GB bandwidth.

    Pretty nice, eh?
