GoDaddy Uses Google Patent to Boost Domains & Hosting

Here's an interesting article on Search Engine Journal

Google recently filed United States Patent Application 20050071741. As part of that patent application, Google made apparent its efforts to wipe out search engine spam, stating:

I know there are rumors of Google buying GoDaddy, but it appears that right now it's just a partnership to sell domains.

What is very interesting to me is this quote,
It makes me think that the length of registration of the domain could influence your ranking (at least in the future).

    What are your thoughts?

    Question:
Valuable (legitimate) means: registered in advance or registration age?

It appears that Google is trying to get more info by partnering with the various domain registrars. The idea is to try to give less of a value in the SERPs to domains that are 1) fairly new 2) registered the domain for a short period, probably 1 year.

This could become more of an issue as we move forward and Google has more partnerships set up and they gather more info.

It already has shown effect for us, as many of our e-commerce domains that were renewed for 10 or more years showed significant increases in ranking within 3-6 months.

Google already has that data being a top level registrar , I also tested domain registration for a long period and saw no positive effect.

Although interesting and new to some, this is old news. The article you reference is dated November of 2005.

I would only imagine if you registered for 5+ years to show Google that you have plans on being there for a long time. But even then I do not think it has much weight at all on how your site ranks.

google is one of the biggest domain registrar but it's not giving domain registration service to the people.

    it's only working for itself

Heard this many times before, Zero effect as far as i'm see. This and the scared off about private registered domain will hurt your ranking. All false alarm.
