When is enough enough and time to upgrade to a VPS or dedicated? I've got about 50 domains with live pages running off my shared godaddy account right now, with a total of about 750-1000 unique visitors a day spread across them. Ive got a new site coming out that is projected to be getting atleast 1000+ unique visitors a day alone, on a site with multiple pages with probably a good 2-4MB worth of data(mostly just images) that the avg visitor is going to eat. On paper it looks like it can handle it, but in reality, will it? Anyone have any experience? I will one day be upgrading to something much better, but right now everything is just too easy and conveniant having all my domains and hosting at godaddy.
if i were launching a product i would go for VPS at least. you can get some pretty good deals and $100 or so a month is pretty affordable. and you dont want shit going pear shaped right when you dont need it to!
If the new site is going to be more resource intensive you may be better off starting that site out in a VPS (or with a different shared hosting account).
I'm amazed they haven't given you the boot already. I have a semi-dedicated plan @downtownhost.com for $60/month. It does the job and I have similar sites to you.
It really depends on when you seem to need it. I have about 25 domains on a shared package and run at least 6k UVs a day. The only time I have a problem is when I get page 1 on digg and then it gets messed up. You should be able to tell if your package can handle it or if you need to upgrade.
