Do i need a credit card or debit card to buy a domain with godaddy? even though i selected paypal?

This is the first time I've used godaddy (usually use dynadot). I'm so shocked by the design of the site and how you get spammy offers when you just want to buy a cheap .info!!!

Yes I think a cc is needed even if you pay by paypal, I remember someone that had his cc expired and he was trying to buy a domain there and on checkout paypal was just asking for his cc.

Basically just ignore the spam offers, I have done it through paypal each time ;). Note that my paypal is verified so if yours is, it should be fine.

    Yes I have verified paypal.

As soon as i checkout i get taken to paypal page, i enter my email and pw, then it redirects me to another page asking for debit or credit card.

Hmm, honestly it works fine for me and I use paypal and am in Australia. I think I know what your problem is though, make sure you do these steps.

    (1) Type in the name to reg - ANIMALISTIC.INFO - Example
    (2) Click the "proceed to checkout" button
    (3) No thanks. Continue to checkout...
    (4) No thanks. I'm ready to checkout.
    (5) Tick both of the agreements, make sure you have put down you want to pay via paypal, only.
    (6) Checkout Now
    (7) Login to the paypal account, pay
    (8) Back to godaddy
    (9) Logout and back in

    That should work ;)

Ok I found the problem, you need to have your paypal backed by a credit card.
