I don't understand why everyone is trying to register names at godaddy I admit that he has a good marketing but their services do not use extra terrestrial technology Sexy ads and fair support can't make him have 7,622,329 difference from the next registrar Some Stats (Position - Registrar - Market Share - Number of registered domains) 1 GO DADDY 18.638% 14,326,239 2 NETWORK SOLUTIONS 8.722% 6,703,910 3 ENOM 7.262% 5,582,226 4 TUCOWS 7.099% 5,456,488 5 MELBOURNE IT 5.462% 4,198,454 6 SCHLUND+PARTNER 3.878% 2,980,602 7 REGISTER.COM 3.525% 2,709,911 8 WILD WEST DOMAINS 2.701% 2,076,166 9 MONIKER 2.287% 1,758,048 10 BULKREGISTER 2.040% 1,568,434 11 PUBLIC DOMAIN REGISTRY 1.738% 1,335,976 12 NAMEKING.COM 1.658% 1,274,164 13 DIRECTNIC 1.595% 1,225,912 14 DOTSTER 1.469% 1,129,535 15 ONLINENIC 1.379% 1,059,858 There are hundreds of good and cheap registrars The godaddy phenomenon looks like a bubble to me It is expanded too much I believe it's better for the market in order to work properly to have equal sides This promotes competition and the end user takes the benefits Try using other registrars too, you'll be surprised but they do offer similar and sometimes better services than godaddy We deal with domain from early 1995 and we used many registrars, some were good, some average, other just bad A steady registrar for me is tucows, a nice overall namecheap, a secure one moniker, a cheap and good domainsite/name.com What i like to godaddy is that it gave some value to daddy or maybe the it's like "go daddy get me a domain" which means that once again daddy is going to put his hand to the pocket What do you like and what you don't like with GoDaddy ? Am i the ONLY one that don't like GoDaddy ?
Where do you get the coupons? I keep getting great deals from them but they aren't any good on renewals.
There are different coupons I use, there are some that work on renewals as well. Just search for Godaddy Coupons in Google and a DP thread should be first in search results
Go Daddy is easy to use and has good tools to manage your domains. I am not saying they have the best DNS and other management tools, but they are good, intuitive and they usually upgrade them a couple of times a year. Plus, if you have a lot of domains, they give you rock bottom pricing and a rep that will do anything for you with regards to your domains.
I use GoDaddy, DirectNic and SnapNames, but over time I find myself moving my domains over to GoDaddy because of their low introductory rates, low transfer feess (from other registrars) and decent pricing for bulk domain renewals. They do offer other programs and freebies (simple email hosting) which seem to be ok, but the one thing I am not too fond of is their online email support. Sometimes getting an answer to a question could take multiple threads and who needs that when you need to know NOW! Their 24/7 phone support however, is fantastic as they have always been able to answer my questions witin the first session. I'm not too sure of the discrepency other than that perhaps being on the phone forces the rep to be accountable for what they say on the spot or maybe my initial emails to their online email support simply were not clear enough to warrant a sufficient answer the first time. Who knows! But all in all, I recommend GoDaddy to most people that ask me about a reputable registrar and I think that's why they have grown to be so big. Because Good 'ol fashioned word of mouth can go a very long way. And I aggree that being the most famous doesn't mean being the best but, neither does being the cheapest mean being the best. What I truly like and appreciate about GoDaddy is their phone support. If you know of a place where I can get decent priced domains, reliable service and some good phone support, please let me know as I'd be willing to check them out too! -One
1) cheap 2) never had any problems with them for over 6 years 3) paypal 4) "everyone" has an account with them - makes selling domains very easy
i agree with DRIG! Godaddy is the easiest and cheapest way to register and then sell a domain. If you want to start wheeling and dealing domains, Godaddy makes it so simple it is almost incredible! I didn't relize how easy it was to acquire or transfer a domain name to another user/account! also the coupons! $6.95 is all I ever pay!
I couldn't agree more. I've been with them for a little over a year and they service, while sometimes slow, is always top-notch and their services are great.
I've been quite happy with Godaddy hosting overall. My one disappointment has been their very limited email message filtering. To set up decent message-filtering rules, you usually need to be able to input multiple variables. GoDaddy's options are very limited. So I've had to use the much more sophisticated message filtering options on my MacMail. The bummer with that is that all those spam emails get all the way to my computer before they are trashed, rather than being trashed right there at the GoDaddy server. I could do the latter if they had more than the most basic email message filtering. I've written them about this, but there have been no changes to date.
Very good point. It makes the transferring process much easier for the buyer. I've heard stories about people not being able to transfer their domains out of their current registrar. If the domain is at GoDaddy, I wouldn't have to worry about that at all because they are very reliable.
I happen to really like godaddy because it's so cheap, and honestly they always answer their phone very quickly. I've had shared and dedicated hosting from them and problems are always fixed very quickly, i don't know why people complain about their hosting plans
paypal, prices, and coupons. They are the best! no complications, no bull, they even call me once a year to see how I am doing! Godaddy rocks!
GoDaddy is the only company that I am reading mass mailings from. Most of my domains are now set to expire many years away from now, and that is because GoDaddy made it affordable. You can get a $1.99 renewal deal if you purchase a non-domain product, too. DNS management is a great tool. Hosting is more than fine, especially being so cheap. Their linux servers are very CMS friendly, I did not have a single problem installing a php script on a GD account. Only drawback - 1000 messages per day can be sent within a hosting account. That should enough for an average website but could be insufficient for an active forum that sends out emails and alert messages frequently. Easy transferring of domains from one account to another. Isn't that convenient? Multi-domain holders must be definitely hoping to sell some of their domains one day, and when that happens, transfers can be completed within minutes. Verdict - I like them.
They don't have Cpanel, they don't make backups, no live chat, no 800 number.... They are mainly a domain registrar, I tried their hosting because it was cheap but had to drop it. I am very satisfied using them for my domains though.
Im surprised nobody jumps at number two in the list.. Networksolutions.. 35$ a year for a .com.. And what you get for that? Not good service or an easy interface/transfer system, thats for sure.
They do have cPanel option available. With their VPS and Dedicated Server packages. I found nothing wrong with their shared account, appart from a too complex login procedure to get to the hosting panel. Otherwise I'm quite happy with the deluxe package..
