I had accounts at both of them. I moved it all to Godaddy. I don't recall why. But I guess that means I vote for Godaddy.
I went with namecheap as they had the best deal on at the time, and was pleased to see they offered free year whois guard. Cant fault namecheap, yet to use godaddy.
Easy to deal with, easy to get a domain registered, just easy to do business with. And since I do a lot of domain and site selling and buying, it is WAY easier to do a push at namecheap than godaddy. Just a username to push to. Godaddy wants all this info, my name, address, phone number etc. Now if I buy a site from someone using godaddy, I have to divulge my personal information to them to get the site pushed to me. Not exactly a private transaction, now is it?
I Have a domain name With GoDaddy Just trasfered from anoter company and i have alot of trouble with GoDaddy since last night my 1 Server Went Down for a while to keep my visitors i just change the name servers thinking that Godaddy is fast change the DNS Server I added the 3rd and 4th name servers to my other hosting company just in case if primary server arnt working then it will take the site to other hosting company saying the site is down for maintaince it took more than hour for GoDaddy to add the DNS but what happens is the domain went to 3rd and 4th DNS instead of primary and it is now more than 16hrs i deleted the 3rd and 4th DNS enteries and it is still pointing to 3rd and 4th for my country i.e Pakistan and when i used some proxy it shows site with Primary and Secondary DNS. It is wired. I send the email to Tech Dept 12 hrs ago and still no reply. On the other hand NameCheap is nice i purchased 2 domain names they went live in just few mins after the purchase and DNS update really quickly. I Vote for Name cheap
I use GoDaddy. I have never had an issue with them and the price is right. I tried their hosting ONCE... will never do that again. I have no experience with namecheap... I may look at it in the future, but right now all my sites are registered with GoDaddy and not sure I would want to go through the headaches of changing them...
This is a really popular question, and usually the answers are posted via opinion only. I'm going to try as much as possible to deliver you an answer that best targets your question theme: security. GoDaddy is a giant in domain registration, and NameCheap is steadily rising to become a strong competitor. Both registrars offer secure payment transactions via PayPal or credit card through SSL to prevent your payment information from being hacked or shown to others/third parties. Both registrars also have a domain lock feature which will allow your domain to stay at the current registrar and not be able to be transferred to someone else or some other registrar. When it comes to personal consumer security, NameCheap offers their WHOIS Guard service free with any and every domain registration. This protects your personal details and contact information from being viewed by others, such as third parties, people who can hurt you, or spammers. Most other registrars charge for such a service, but with NameCheap it's free. When it comes to domain management security, GoDaddy offers the most secure user control panel through SSL. At NameCheap, you can choose to login to your account via SSL or non-SSL, but at GoDaddy it is pretty much an automatic SSL connection. Pushing domains at NameCheap is very simple: you enter the username of the account you wish to push the domain to, and your account password to push the domain to their account. However, at GoDaddy one must put the entire contact details to push a domain to someone else's account and that someone must confirm the domain push. If however, the account was hacked into by another individual, the correct account holder could contact GoDaddy immediately and retrieve their domain back (as GoDaddy even has a 3 month policy in which domains cannot be transferred out so if the other individual accepted the domain push on their end, they couldn't get it out...it'd be under their 3 month domain change/update policy). If that happened at NameCheap, then your domain may be gone forever.
No problem. Hope it helped you. If there's anything I missed out, someone please feel free to fill in the blanks.
IMO godaddy has very quick DNS updates, if you combine i with something linke dnsmadeeasy, you will susually see your changes within a few hours. Also they usually take less then 12 hours to respond, which for someone that big is pretty quick. Although most of their responses are very much 'form letter'.
I would go with Namecheap. They are way better than godaddy. You will experience alot of problems with godaddy. Sometimes they even delete your domain names off your account. Thats why i never use Godaddy anymore.
