GoDaddy or Namecheap

Hey I was hoping to draw from all the experienced internet guru's that are in the Digital Point community. What company is better to register domain names? Listing the pros and cons would be helpful..... from what I have been told, GoDaddy kind of sticks it to you with added services and fees to pay for there big Ad Campaigns (Like The SuperBowl) and Spokespeople. Leaning towards Namecheap myself, but I would like feedback from the DP Community! :)

I've always preferred GoDaddy, mainly because when I got into building websites they was just a trusted and respectable domain name registrar. Never really tried any other registrars although I have an account with NameCheap i've never registered a domain name there.

I have a very bad experience with GoDaddy, so I advise you to avoid it.

I have tried them once too, and I had a similar experience but since so many people use them with a good experience, I thought I would raise the question again to DP members. I thought maybe my experience was just a fluke. Has anyone else had bad experiences with GoDaddy?

I have more than 50+ domain reg. with godaddy and have no problem except to pay extra for WhoisGuard Protection, and have more than 20+ domain with namecheap (Free WhoisGuard Protection)and still has no problem with it.
But I am more comfortable with godaddy and always prefer godaddy.

This is all really surprising, I thought there would be a good mix of both suggestions... Like I said, I have had my hesitations about GoDaddy, but it looks like I should probably give them another chance. Thank you everyone for your input.

I prefer Godaddy as they have coupons using which you can buy domains really cheap. What I don't like about Godaddy is that they almost force you to buy additional domains and hosting when registering a domain. I also have some domains with Namecheap.

Try to gather as many reviews about its domain registration services (both positive and negative) and serve these as basis in choosing Registrars.

GoDaddy sell Domains registrations as a service that lots of other companies use to brand for themselves - but you still get GoDaddy type of upsells.
That's why GoDaddy prices are kept high but they attract new users with coupon offers, then make extra profit from the second year.
The company I have used for years is http://powerhoster.com/ - just for domain registration, not hosting.
Other companies undercut powerhoster prices from time to time, but they always average out lower cost.
Registration and renewal prices have gone up over the last year, but are still only $8.75 = cheaper than most.

Thank you very much seafrontsteve, this is exactly the kind of information I was looking for. I have checked out the site, and 8.75 for .com's and they don't charge for privacy! That is pretty cool. I have another question for you... Where would you recommend I look for hosting?

Godaddy - lots of coupons if you want many domains stick to them

namecheap - free SSL and whoisguard, if you have just handful domains to register choose them.

I love using Lime Domains. With a coupon code, you can get it at like $7.60. It might not be as cheap as some, but the interface and control is much easier. I absolutely hate GoDaddy! When I setup several domains at a time, GoDaddy makes it a pain to manage them. Their site just sucks.

I have quite a few domains with Godaddy and have been completely happy with them, but lately I've been using Namecheap, their customer service is just as good and free WHOISGuard can't be beat.

According to me,You should go for Namecheap rather than Godaddy as Namecheap provides Free Who Is and Namecheap Interface is easy to access and fast rather than interface of Godaddy is slow and takes much time to Load :)

I agree with you both, especially the point about the slow interface GoDaddy has... it is a bit annoying but at first I thought it was my computer. I don't like the fact that GoDaddy charges for whois guard.

I use both, but I prefer Namecheap. Less hassle. Although GoDaddy did call me up one and convinced me to put all my domains with the same expiration date. Now they all come due at the same time and I don't have to hassle with paying for them throughout the year.
