I logined in to my account to today to find out that Godaddy went with heavy CSS layout today. I hope that they improve their service also and not just their layout.

I don't think that qualifies as web 2.0. For a start there is no AJAX and there is certainly no user contributed content.

It only takes an obsession with superficial fads to be Web 2.0.

I agree completely that web2.0 is a completely silly, arbitrary term that totally doesn't have the "feel" of what it's actually describing.

but it's not all just about superficial fads (... their layouts & domains may be, though). ajax, user interaction, apis, are here to stay.

    Oh, absolutely.

But they've been around since long before they were tagged "Web 2.0" and became trendy. More than anything else, simple fundamental-oriented approaches are back in vogue, which is a good thing. But it's important to realise that Web 2.0 is nothing new, just a collection of existing design patterns that have come in to fashion.

no, you also need some javascript, popups, marquee text and -most important- a stampsize-video where some guy or animated char welcomes you to this homepage. :)

Well, the DCC 4.0 by godaddy is completely different from the classic DCC...a dash of ajax, smooth graphics and a good try to make it look organized. But load time and response time is pathetic here on my 256kbps DSL

If godaddy used AJAX or Flex to help in domain availablity checks that would be a decent Web 2.0 feature, not a trendy feature but a fat client feature. Image if you could start typing in a domain name and it turned red if it was taken like the FireFox in page search. That would be sweet.

    agree completely. that'd be awesome.

I've always thought "fat client" sounds so negative though. reminds me of bloatware.
