I tried to go on my site today, which is hosted by GoDaddy, and it said "Server not found". I was like "Oh crap!" (that's the censored version) because I have worked very hard on this site and I had no idea why it was doing this. After looking around for 10 or so minutes at the cached pages of my site on Google (I forget why), I had the bright idea maybe something was wrong with the host. I went on GoDaddy.com and it is down, completely down, not a "We'll be back up shortly", but the page you get when you type an incorrect URL (as I said, server not found). Now I'm not so worried, because GoDaddy is a huge company, so I'm sure they'll be back up soon, but this is definitely weird, for something as big as them to be down like this for so long. By the way I couldn't find a better section for this and since GoDaddy is known as a domain registrar I put this in the domain section.
What? Impossible, this computer is working fine, so why would my site and GoDaddy.com not be working. I need to find another site hosted by GoDaddy and see if that works.
Holy crap, this is weird, digg.com is down too! I searched "hosted by GoDaddy" on Google, and I opened a lot of the pages, and only one of them worked! But one was digg and that is down! What's going on here?
I see... damn this is bad, it's working for some people and not working for others. I don't get this!
Could be your ISP's dns problem. Also which browser are you using to access the site? Sometimes I face the problem of sites not opening on one browser but works fine on the other. Mozilla and IE work fine only Opera is problematic on my pc. Maybe you too face a similar problem. ARonald
I tried it on IE and it didn't work there. That's what I thought, Ronald, something with DNS. Maybe the ISP this comp is using (it's my friend's comp, but he uses Comcast, a popular one) got into a dispute with GoDaddy and decided to not show any of their sites? Ha, very unlikely... but yes, it must be some kind of DNS problem because some sites work and others don't.
Yay now everything is working for me! Great, I wonder what went wrong there... well, thanks for the help guys.
My website is working fine on GoDaddy right now. However, I did notice an unusual drop in traffic yesterday, as reported by StatCounter, on my GoDaddy-hosted site. Perhaps they were having some issues that they've worked out today.
It could be a routing issue between your net connection and the data centre at Godaddy. In other words some other network between the two connection is having issues routing traffic, which is very common. Do a Tracert for a site that seems down. Usually you can figure out where your hops are dropping which can give a clue who the problem sits with.
As fun as it would be to put my computer networking knowledge to practical use, my site and apparently all GoDaddy sites are back up. However, it would be nice to know how many other people had the same problem.
