I had the same thing happen to me too. I was really excited because I thought I bought mp3.name, but then I got an email shortly after my card was charged which said:

"The following domain name has failed to be registered:

    MP3.NAME

Error: MP3.NAME: already exists in GNR database.

We will evaluate this error and retry the registration
    if appropriate.

If we are unable to successfully register the domain
name, your account will be credited accordingly. Please
allow one business day for the refund to be processed."

Maybe .name domains have a problem with showing up as available even though they're not. But I'm sure you'll get the credit back though, just give it a business day or two.

their must be some ban on certian .name address's, yet I don't know why godaddy lists them for sale but??? when they are obviously banned its just wasting people's time!

search for any adult domain name @ .name via go daddy and you can purchase them..

    look www.xxx.name
    www.sex.name

what if my name was xxx how come I cant register it at .name :D?????

.name purpose is for names right lol..

this is really dodgey, only reason I purchased xxx.name was becuase it was listed on the wayback site from 2001 under some other persons site....

This has happened to me in about 1 out of 40-50 instances that I reg a domain with gdaddy. They always credit the money back to your credit card or Paypal account within 2-3 days.

Well, even with an occasional blip here and there - still the best customer service and the nicest staff in the industry IMO.

I haven't had this problem with godaddy but have been pissed off a few times now with ipowerweb for things like this. A couple times I registered a domain only to find I wasn't charged and the domain was still available 24 hours later! I've also registered a domain, got the login details only to soon find out someone else registered the domain and was on the whois of the domain, obviously meaning I didn't regsiter it even though I was sent login details.

So, although ipowerweb can be cheap to get some ok domains, not a very good idea to use for important registrations.

Im not a godaddy fan but I still use them as a domainer. I had a few problems with them before, so im tring to avoid them now. One of the issue's was a domain name that was gone missing from my account, and they had no explaination what so ever !!

Now I use domainsite, enom, namecheap.

her3e is a email I just got from godaddy..atleast they have realised what my problem is now.."finally"

Thank you for contacting Customer Support. I apologize for any confusion in this matter. The Global Name Registry (GNR) is the licensed operator of .name domains. Since .name domains can be registered as 'second level' domains, like john.name, or as 'third level' domains, such as john.smith.name, once a third level name is registered, a second level name based upon that one cannot.

Specifically in the case of XXX.NAME, the domain XXX.XXX.NAME has already been registered. This means that XXX.NAME cannot be registered.

When you attempt to register a domain name, our system checks with the Registry to see if the domain is available. If the Registry indicates that the domain is available, we proceed with the transaction. In cases such as these, it generally means that the Registry indicated the domain was available on our initial inquiry.

Our system will automatically process a refund for the cost of the registration, 5 days after the initial purchase.

Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.
