Amazon is likely the potential buyer anyway.

The only nightmare here is, google will buy it.
anyone else, and there is no problem.

if google buys godaddy, it will be a dark day for planet earth.

    Reasons:

    1) google will decide if .co is listed as #2 or #90
    2) google will decide if .us will be cheap or expensive depending on if the united states gives them money or not.
    3) google will decide if they should list the next extension on top of the list or at the bottom.
    4) google will probably create .google and make it a free extension and close off all the other extensions.

I hope Whole Foods buys it. it's my favorite company.
It's not like there is a law that says a food company can not sell domain registrations on the internet.

i've never witnessed any ceo as decent as the ceo of whole foods. altho there were some conflicts, he never lost his cool, he went through a stock shake up that went from $67 to $9 and went backup.

his company had foods for too much money, but he lowered the prices and now even poor people can buy luxury foods.

that's the kind of guy i'd like to see be in charge of the world's #1 registrar.

if i had money right now, i'd buy godaddy and give it to whole foods.

Whole Foods style is the correct style of life. everything else is NOT WHOLE.

im assuming the new owners will not change anything to avoid loosing customers (if they are smart)

If you start making drastic changes and piss people off - people will just leave...simple.

If you were from Texas, and you became the president
of US. you would for certainly promote your texan ranch
and your texan lifestyle everytime you got infront of the microphone
    to address the nation.

losing customers you said? well,it's more like converting customers
that are into islamic religion, into christians, they will still be your customers.

imagine if the founder of twitter or google was a homo
he'd do anything to ensure everyone in the whole world turns into a homo

he'd probably put a homo flag on the web site.

the same way, george bush put the texas ranch flag inside the
white house, when he took over white house.

and everyone around the world started doing bbq. and started
    growing mustache.

I am just thinking that if godaddy is sold than can we see some price hikes in new domain names and renew option . If this happened than many users will think to move on to other networks .

It is a possible...but if they did and customers didn't like it they would just move to another registrar. godaddy's business model is cheap names and high volume. If you jack up the prices you will make more per name but have less customers (and actualy make less money)

example: what if Walmart decided to jack up their prices?...people would shop somewhere else. I buy from godaddy because the names are well priced. period.

my concern whether the new owner will change the business model,
you see you will probably no longer to have any $.99 .COM domain.
it's absolutely a bargain when the revenue is around $600-700M in 2009,
$1B is not a big deal for the potential buyers.

The 99 cent deals are pure advertising - they only do them once a month and one per customer. hey are used as bait, and it works. If i bought GD i would keep the deal. it gets a buzz going and self advertises for them.

Revenue does mean anything - you need to look at the NET income or cash flow (EBIT). If a company brings in Gross sales (revenue) of $700mil. but only makes $1mil net profit - the company is not worth $1bil.

Most likely google will buy them, and that would have a high chance of everything going downhill for godaddy.
