Godaddy buy domains.. Take your money and use it as they see fit..

Here is a little tale from the wicked domain world..

A few months back in Feb 2007 I had a little tiff with TDNAM. This ended up in them banning my account and adding a service fee of 40$. They were in their right to do so according to the terms I accepted, even though I found it a bit prickly of them when I just paid 2K for expired domain auctions. So I decided to leave TDNAM and never look back.

Now this leads me to another seemingly unrelated incident. One day in this April I was contacted by the "buy domains" department of godaddy. Apparently someone paid them to acquire one of my domain names. This person paid them 60$ upfront and agreed to pay another 10% of the sales price to them. We have a negotiation to and forth (my god they are slow) always waiting more than a week for each reply from them. Finally we agree on a price and the sale could continue. I wait another week and then get a Email stating that when I am ready to proceed I should give them my TDNAM account number.

Hmmm. Well i write back and tell them that my Tdnam account is banned and I would like to use alternative Escrow or make them open a temporary account for the transfer..

No can do! I pay the 40$ or they wont perform the service they have already been paid for. They gave me an analogy where I was told, that I could not rent another video before I paid my late dues for the last one I rented. No response was made when I pointed out that it was in fact them that wanted to "rent a video" at MY store..

Since my last mail I haven’t heard anything from them.. I would like to know what they told their customer that paid them to acquire the domain.. " well yes the seller wanted to sell the domain.. But we decided we didn’t want to buy it before he settled some other business we had going with him".. To bad the potential buyer looses 60$, I loose a sale and godaddy earns 60$ for doing nothing..

The lesson here.. NEVER use godaddy buy domains to acquire a domain. Since their service is integrated into TDNAM, they will seek to get any debt, owed to godaddy or TDNAM, covered by a potential seller before they process your order.. So in fact you are WORSE of using "godaddy buy domains" service, than if you didn’t. Some guy actually paid them money to go collect their old debts.. He didn’t get much out of it though!

Now I know that most people here would never pay to let somebody else acquire a domain for you. But this just goes to show what a shady operation Godaddy is running.. Stay away from them and sign up at monikers instead…

Well I would recommend moniker as mentioned..

If you are a member at dnforum they give you 6.95$ pr .com domain (all years) and 5.95$ pr net domain (first year.. after that 6.95$ for subsequent years).. This also goes for transfers..

The best about moniker is their domain managment system, which is great when you own more than a few domains..

Drop godaddy .. De er nogle rovhuller ;)

promo things with GoMammy and TDNAM are worse than they look on the surface
He got so many crap and ignorant users not as simple users but litterally as fanatical followers
I posted my opinion in a topic to avoid GoMammy ( http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?p=3143356#post3143356 ) and i got negative reputation points and a comment "another moron"

You don't have the right to question mighty GoMammy
In fact according to them if a person thinks he's not good and don't say 'i die for GD' he's a morron

It's really interesting the level of mind twist made to these poor people
I think in their mind they confused the boobs from the tv ads with the dots of domain names
Whenever they see the dots they fantasize the boobs :)

I sold some names at tdnam and sent the money to another paypal account. I waited for about 2 months to get them back
The "fantastic" support they have there can answer only with "yes" or "no"
If it's more than that you don't wait only 24H but they forward your question to more "clever" employee .... :)

Well i think the next move of GD is to sponsor the movie "Idiocracy". It describes very well how 2 people feel in an environemt of dot zombies where they think other people morons when they say anything bad about their dot god

domnom, some people are idiots. even thou i like godaddy, there are problems in their system indeed. and i believe not everything suits everyone.

promo, maybe you should put a for sale text on your domain and ask the potential buyers to contact you directly.

This sounds good and add - don't come through Buy Domains, I am not going to sell if you use their service.

That would give them an idea.

    Thanks

Promo: simply make a html file explaining what happned and direct your domain to it. I am sure that buyer will come back some time to see what is hapening with the domain and he can do something against godaddy taking money from him.

Hey guys. Thanks for the support!

The first thing I did when they refused to cater the deal was to upload a page with my Email and an explanation. Havent heard from the buyer yet though..

Ill keep on waiting and hope the buyer visits the domain.

The problem is, most buyers don't even look at what's on the page now.

Where did this $40 fee come from? TDNAM's been great for me, but I've always been a seller.

3 negative reputation points (increased by 2) because i mentioned in another topic that i don't like godaddy (http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?p=3143356#post3143356)

Just to see the "democracy" of some people especially GoDaddy's followers when they hide behind their reputation points to say and act as they see fit with a 2 years old behavior (i guess their mind is still in preschool level)

List of the - reputation points with their comments :
May 17th 2007 7:24 am no coincidence you're selling domains, no?
May 17th 2007 3:46 am Morons are morons.
    May 16th 2007 4:50 am another moron
