Let's have a little scenario, shall we? Imagine Go Daddy processed about 50 new .com registrations from Vietnam at $8/year each in one day. That's about $400 (50 x 8) gross profit. They pay $6 to VeriSign and $0.25 to ICANN per .com domain. Let's do a little math: 1. 6 x 50 = $300 in fees to VeriSign. 2. $0.25 x 50 = $12.50 in fees to ICANN. 3. $300 + $12.50 = $312.50 in fees. 4. $400 gross profit - $312.50 fees = $87.5 from Vietnam in that single day. And that's not including costs for salaries, overhead, hardware, etc. 6 days later, chargebacks are made for 40 out of the 50 .com domain names. You may or may not know, but merchants pay a fee for every chargeback. I don't recall the exact chargeback fee for registrars. But on the average, it's at least $50 up to $200 per chargeback per domain name. So if it's $50 x 40, that means Go Daddy shells out $2000 in chargeback fees. $87.50 - $2000 = -$1912.50 loss. If you think you're tired from doing the possible math above, imagine it on a much bigger scale for about a month. That potentially means the registrar is going to lose out money, and they have to stop that from happening. Now unless you don't care what it's like being on the other side, do you still think that's not totally fair? Then again, life's not fair either. Get used to it.
I'm afraid you could only ask them for it. Umm,that would be a good solution for the people come from the blocked conutries.
I was scared when I read the title of your post, but then I did not find the name of my country in the list..huh..
I disagree about high fraud countries, not all of them are high fraud.. take for example Sillypore.... i mean Singapore! You get fined for eating chewing gums! With all respect, Singapore is not a high fraud country, I don't think any of them dare to commit fraud without having risk the wrath of their own government :/
Well, now... I just logged into Godaddy and tried accessing my domain management panel or account panel...but page not found error in IE,FF,Opera. Tried many times...what the hell is this ? Other pages are loading fine. Just shot a question to them though...
Wtf last nite someone pushed the domain to me, and now i cant accept the change of account ownership. they give me error . I will loose the money and 2 domains i've contacted the support, but nothing from them yet
Sure not all of them are "high fraud". But tell that to those registrars who lost a considerable amount of money dealing with them. Paypal's not accepting business from certain countries, either. Should that be any different from this?
I am having the same problem. I can access any page on godaddy except when i try to open https://mya.godaddy.com it says "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". I had to call them to purchase domains and now i cannot even access them!
you needn't do anything...there are softwares and security agencies doing that...though I dont know if they are publicly available.
i'm from China and i can still reg domain names from godaddy.com, but only with a new visa card, my previous visa card cant be used for no reason. [i just registered dotfi.com a few hours ago with my visa]
Should, but it isn't! I am a German, but right now i am in the philippines for a few months. I tried to register some domains with my creditcard (VISA), [tried also via paypal] and my German home-adress, but they blocked my order. Then my father (in Germany) made the order for me, with the same Adress and my VISA-card and they accepted the registration. So i think, it makes not a different which adress you are telling them. If the IP you are using is from this blocked countries, they'll block you! I think it could make it even more worse, because they could think that you are an asian who is trying to order with a stolen creditcard. ps: sorry for my bad english grammar!
