I got a shocked when I received a reply from their support after several attempts to register a few domain names. It has never been a problem previously as I have more than 20+ domains with them. Below are their reply : We are currently unable to process transactions originating from the following countries: Bulgaria China (including Hong Kong) Ghana Indonesia Macedonia Malaysia Pakistan Singapore Romania Vietnam WTF?! Now I need to look for a new registrars and move away from GoDaddy
Well, they have that hidden somewhere in their FAQs for quite some time now. I am from Singapore and I've moved all my domain names from them to Namecheap which does not have a problem with my business. I take it that you are from Sarawak, Malaysia
Yup, but currently residing in Vietnam Guess I'll have to open up an account with namecheap. How's their service so far? Are there any other better registrars?
I've been using Godaddy for at least 4-5 yrs now, their sudden blockage pisses me off! Off I go to namecheap!
Try this http://help.godaddy.com/article.php?article_id=219&topic_id=&& Like I say, they hide that in the FAQs and make it hard to find. Well, Namecheap works great for me. There is no hanky panky with them.
That's to be expected. Domain registrars, like any other business, do have the right to refuse business from certain places that potentially puts lots of risks on their shoulders. Makes one glad there are lots of other choices.
I think that's about hostings but not domains? Title: Can I order Web hosting even though I do not live in the United States?
That applies to Domain Names also. I did check with them, they say they cannot do business with me because I am from Singapore. This was an email reply I got from them about keeping my domain names at GoDaddy.
Umm,I've no idea on this since I can't prove it. But why they don't do business with the people in Asia? It's totally not FAIR!
I am from china,i also can register , not know why they block you now, while the help"http://help.godaddy.com/article.php?article_id=219&topic_id=&&" shows"Last Updated: May 1, 2006 1:58 PM"
I have been trying since Nov. 21 to get them to respond with the authorization code I need to transfer a domain away from them. I can find no mention of it on their site, their site still gives the Thanksgiving message for live help, and they don't seem to respond to requests via their message system. Not the kind of service which makes me want to leave any domains there. If anyone knows how to get the authorization code I would appreciate the information.
Well, they will indeed let you register and if you use an address which is from the country they do not permit, they will creep up to you and send you the warning email some time in the future. If you are not from Pakistan but just visiting and you use an approved country address then it should probably be alright.
They have blocked those countries as orders originating from there have very high average fraud scores.
