Hey guys, Came here after a long time. The new looks of the forum is cool. Thought this is the best place to post my thoughts about GoDaddy and troubles related to it. So, I have a linux hosting account on godaddy, the one with unlimited domains and 150gb space. Most irritating fact about shared godaddy hosting is that the modifications to your account cannot be made directly by you. You submit the request, it shows "pending" for about 3-4 hours and then your work gets done, even if its something as simple as adding a new database or a domain. *Annoys the hell out of me* Btw, I am a web-designer and developer. Now, since a month, I am facing this weird problem on godaddy's SQL databases. I make a database, its setup in "just" 2 hours and then they give me a server link along with the username and password I had entered. Everything works fine, I use my php scripts to connect to mySQL, so far so good. Now suddenly, after 3-4 days, I try to access my db via phpmyadmin and whoa! it shows incorrect password. So then I go to my hosting control panel to change my database's password, it shows successfully changed and then I enter the same password to phpmyadmin log-in page, again bloody incorrect. C'mon you can trust me that I won't forget the password in just 18 seconds of time. It just doesn't accept. Then I change the password in my php script which accesses the db, now it gets even worse, the script stops working saying the good old: Unable to connect (user@blahblah) - Using password: Yes Code (markup): So, there are 3 things I want to say: Is there anyone else having this problem? Can this be solved? And, finally, a piece of advice: Never take godaddy hosting if you want to do some php/sql programming. It's fine as long as you are hosting simple html sites. Note: - Please don't suggest contacting godaddy support, they are slow, they are helpless and they suck. - Please don't suggest any hosting companies, I own a dedicated server. This godaddy account is for clients who don't want to spend more
But that's you're only option. Only they can help you out with this as it's obviously some sort of problem. Pay peanuts, get monkeys. Slow, rubbish, clueless, or otherwise you'll need their help to sort this. Your choice. If they are that bad why don't you leave them? If the customers won't pay more then they will have to learn to live with issues like this or pay more to get decent hosting.
Ohh, so its a common issue. Feels better, because now I can blame godaddy and run away @RonBrown: I tried asking them, they said there "might" be a problem in my php code and I was advised to search google on how to code. Second time, I happened to mention osCommerce script having the same problem, they said they can't provide support for 3rd party scripts (even if there's a bug in godaddy and not in the script) You're right, I have already decided to drop it. But I have many websites hosted on it and it'll be a lot time-consuming moving all of them. Me being a lot busy these days, I'll have to bear it for another 3-4 months.
To be honest, when I saw that you had to contact them to do common things like adding a domain or database made me think it's a pretty poor hosting operation altogether. Control Panels are brilliant because means you can concentrate support on the things that really matter - keeping the servers running - and let customers take care of their own set-up. Also, most customers like to be in control of their hosting and Control Panels give them that ability without having to know anything technical. Not providing support for 3rd party scripts is common. Although we do our best for our customers, we're not paid to de-bug code - not to say we've never helped out. However, it does sound like a problem somewhere (it would be easier if you could just change the password yourself) but it doesn't seem to work that way. Moving sites is time consuming. Some hosts will move sites for you so that might be something to look out for and it will save you the grief of having to do it yourself. The best thing you could do is move to a host where you have more control over your day-to-day environment.
i stop using them since 2 years ago, bad experience. Support is not helping to solve problem, always get back with knowledgebase link & content.
I was very happy with their legacy hosting, until I change to their new 4GH hosting. This hosting sucks. Always face database connection problem. The worst that could happen in their legacy hosting is it will be slower to access your site if too many hits coming to your hosting (well.. common things for any shared hosting ), but with their latest 4GH hosting, it's really really bad, really really sucks. Every time I emailed or called, they always couldn't solve my problem and ending up blaming on my script. Wheres I only use wordpress and standard plugins that were always working when it was with the legacy. Frankly the way their support handle my case is very bad. I've decided to move to another hosting provider, since I don't think my years there is at any value to them. My advise to whomever plan to take godaddy, DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME & MONEY.
