GoDaddy and DNS...

I'm not sure this is the right forum but this was the closest match I could find.
I have a domain registered with a company -- not GoDaddy -- and a deluxe hosting account with GoDaddy.

Can I edit the DNS so that the domain points to the contents of a subdirectory in my GoDaddy hosting account, without having to transfer the domain to GoDaddy?

If your current domain registrar supports redirection, you could set it so your domain redirects to your specified URL. For example you visit site1.com and it redirects to site2.com/folder automatically.

If you have the option to host multiple domains on your GoDaddy account, you could add your domain to your godaddy account, change your domains name servers accordingly, and in your GoDaddy hosting account set the document root of the domain to your desired directory (if possible)

Hi there :) If you have hosting at Go Daddy then the DNS is there too usually. If the domain is set on Go Daddy's nameservers, then you could create a .htaccess file (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.htaccess)and upload that to your hosting account. That could redirect the site from the root to the contents of a subdirectory.

Hope the site turns out great!

thats an easy one :) when adding a domain trought the cpanel ( or atleast on the 99% of the hosting panels ) you can choose a directry of the domain so just add your domain on the directory you want and voala :)

You should not have to transfer you domain to your host in order to use any feature.

Most hosts and technicians will insist that you transfer the domain to them or use their same servers simply because it is easier for the and in most cases the client.

To do this simply change the name-servers for your domain to the assigned name-servers your provider gave you with the account and then add the domain to your providers control panel and configure it as you like.

Note that your provider will need to support adding on a domain to the control panel and setting the document root to the directory you want. I have not personally hosted with GoDaddy so I can not say one way or the other.

In short it is technologically possible and I know this can be done using a cPanel server (goDaddy does not use cPanel).
