Remember if your domain gets grabbed DO NOT visit the URL. The owner/taster will be looking to see if there is any traffic on the domain during the 5 day grace period, if you provide traffic to the domain they will have reason to keep it instead of letting it drop.

I search from my Mac terminal and avoid the web for that.

Whoa...I just learned a valuable lesson today. Registrars can't be trusted when it comes to searching for valuable domain names. Gee, who woulda thought you can't trust someone on the Internet? ;)

Thats the thing, it shows it's owned by GoDaddy, so how can they claim they don't do it when they don't even try hiding it.

Well that didn't in that case anyway

I just thought it was disgusting they would do that as it took me days of searching to come up with that name

hi guys, i posted early...but now i did a little more research.. Even some isps do this, and sell the info to partners so they can register common typos and domains that arnt registered but getting traffic..

So basically its not even safe typing the url into your browser. Go figure.

This has never happened to me at Godaddy, however, it did happen last year at 1and1.
on the 6th day, the domain was available again, so I figured they were probably engaged in
"snagging and tasting"...just like Network Solutions is constantly accused of doing.

Anyhow, it's best to just keep an "offline list" of domains you are interested in, and never search them
online till the moment you are ready to register.
    * THEN, make sure to log in to your account before searching.
    * And just for good measure, dump names in your shopping cart frequently,
if you are registering many domains at once.
That way, your log in does not time out before you're done.

Hmm Even i 2 don't believe this, I tried many searches in godaddy, and registered many domains after a long gap between search and registering, Most of the domains i search with the common words, till now i didn't felt a single case of like this, Any how this thread giving alert to webmasters that beware with their searches, Book as soon as you found a best or good one, Later on you can sell on domain market as premium domains.

I experienced this once. Found a good name but did not register it and when i came back the next day or so, it's not available anymore! Not sure whether it is Godaddy and just plain unlucky.

    Same thing happend to me.
Thats why i search my domain names on smaller registers and
    than buy them on godaddy.
Godaddy is cheap but they can be tricky some times:(

The point is that GoDaddy entered the minds of most internet users
No matter what he does they trust him
Bob says they're not doing it, that is a proof that they don't
Bob says he doesn't like tasting, it's a rule that GoDaddy don't taste
I don't know about conspiracy theories, everybody's right is to believe what he thinks is best but also plain thinking that everything is shiny and good is also dangerous

It's only got to happen to one person anywhere once and it shows it is happening.

Work out the statistics that after years of registering domain names by millions of people, that on the exact day you come up with a name that NO one else has ever registered, the same company you checked it out on actually buys the name

Coincidence, ummmm 1 billion to one:cool:
