Atheism holds itself out as adhering to some self imposed standard of scientific proof - and yet when challenged on their assertions that 'God does not exist' cannot provide one proof or shred of evidence. Even by their own standards! It smacks of being intellectually challenged if one holds themselves out as requiring proof of an assertion, and then making assertions that are devoid of fact or evidence. And that is precisely what Atheists do when they say 'God does not exist'. There are as many flavours of Atheism as there are flavours of Religion. A true Atheist will admit God may exist on the basis of your definition - because asserting God does not exist is an unsupported assertion. The true neutral position of a atheist is the acceptance that 'God may exist' or 'God may not exist' because in the absence of proof, both are equally valid. You cannot make an assertion of either without proof. If you do, then you either provide proof, or make the assertion on the basis of belief. Religious people openly admit their assertion is made on the basis of belief. Atheists make their assertion, but refuse to provide any evidence or proof of it. It is therefore of course simply a belief. So Atheism is simply the polar opposite of Religion. In the absence of proof for either, they are both simply beliefs. The only difference between the two is one half (religious) are fully aware of their position as one based on belief. The other (atheist) are deluded in thinking they operate on some basis of factual data. Of course, just don't challenge them to provide that data - you'll probably end up getting a response along the lines of 'Religious people should prove God exists first!'. If we all followed that particular brand of atheism we'd still be swinging from trees, making grunting sounds and eating nuts. We'd have got nowhere on the basis that proof was required before we'd believe anything was possible. Those particular atheists are as devoid as fact as a religious person. It is definately not a "you go first!" childish game, but rather something more profound that unfortunately I don't have the time/ability to explain to you. But to say it in short: Claiming the existence of something that can not be proved or disproved, is absolutely meaningless in the eyes of modern science. "god" falls in this category.
nehemiah, the problem with stox is that he isnt the typical atheist. I proved it when , after I provided him with circomstantial evidence to show there was a possibility that god exists, he couldnt even get himself to admit it. I didnt want a full admission, but like rockyg to admit that there is a chance that he exists and a chance that he doesnt. Stox is of the ranting variety of atheists that have a total FAITH that god doesnt exist. He screams at how people can go on just faith, but at the same time he seems to be the number one backer of faith himself. He still doesnt understand why I used the leaf throwing analogy. This is why it was so easy to get my point across to most but him. Gworld isnt much different as he is long on judgmentality and low on facts. Hence this is why they post in tandom, cause they understand each other so well. Thanks Nehemiah, your posts have also given me insight into faith. I think I do understand the difference but I dont feel that I deserve it until I take care of 2 people that mean the world to me, and I havent just yet, but hopefully one day I will, as they nursed me back to health when I was almost dead. Our Father blessed you and me because of our individual obedience to HIM, not because "2 people" listen and heed what we're trying to share with them. . .remember that too, okay?
