Ah. O.K. So, are you claiming that humans are MORE than biological machines? Why? What makes humans "different"? Why are humans conscious, and a lightbulb isn't?
You're lacking in understanding. Let me talk down to you so you get it. A human brain, that pinkish gray gland in your skull, cannot be switched off. Even when you are sleeping it is on, because if it was off you would stop breathing. Wow, what a hard concept. A light bulb is able to be turned off, and back on, and thus is not comparable with the flick of a switch. Wow. Again, a really hard concept there. However if a lightbulb is left continuously on until it burns out, that is much closer to how death is, since a light bulb, once turned out cannot be turned back on. The same goes for the human brain - as when the blood stops, the life stops unless restored within a half hour at the extreme. Again, it is a bad analogy, because when the blood is shut off to the brain, there is still a chance of restoring it with medical technology. Oh my, so hard to conceive. However, if you stuck a stick of dynamite in your mouth, and blew your head off, then yes, the light bulb burning out would work, since it is impossible to survive a total decapitation and brain obliteration. However, it seems you may have already turned your frontal lobe to mush, so I don't think you're going to understand little Johnny. The machinery of biology is similar to our machinery, but only at the cellular level. There are many systems that are constantly running, just like hardware in a car factory. And just like that car factory, little Billy, it all started with simple systems that gradually evolved to be better and more efficient throughout time. But I know you won't get that little Timmy, so go back to playing your game 'Count the number of times the big book says God'.
No it's very much the department of the religious. I mean, how else could they fight their propagander war against knowledge and human advancment without lying. Because their little story about a magic man certainly could stand on it's own merits on account of it being obviously absolute bollocks which even children invariably see through. Imagine that, being outwitted by a child, how degrading. By the way, isn't this where you are supposed to "turn the other cheek"? Or is that another part of your story which you chose to ignore when it be ones inconvinient? Face it, you don't believe in this shit any more than I do, you have just been convinced that you should claim to believe it.
The only reason they say they believe it is so they don't go to "hell". That's not "praising god", that's saving your own ass.
Bring on the singularity for the love of your 'Gods' and superstitions. We'll be beyond you when it happens, as our minds are upgraded, augmented, and filled with more knowledge than you could fathom. Knowledge, wisdom, all programmable and interfaced with the human mind, a terabyte at a time. We'll see forever, we'll conquer planets, moons, and entire star systems, we'll expand... while you sit and twiddle your thumbs in a cardboard box.
@Jackuul, if bullshit were music, you'd be a symphony. This is really over your head, isn't it? Now take some time out of your lonely life to read this. I see that, whenever the conversation is out of your depth, you become obsessed with minutia. It's pattern with you. Your useless rambling is simply a shield for your avoidance of my question which, more and more, appears to be too philosophically complex for you. So, let's try it again, shall we? "Why are humans conscious, and a lightbulb isn't?" Again, your avoidance of this question is a concession of the question, cupcake. You don't have an answer. This is the question that atheists always choke and gag on. You know, it's not that you're an asshole or a bigot that I object to. It's that you're an incompetent one.
Because humans have a large gland in their head which facilitates thought, and light-bulbs generate light. DURRRRRR. Also the original question I began responding to, you poor little halfwit, was the following quote: I answered it right off Because it's not a brain. It's a light bulb. You're trying to distort the questions, the facts, the things I said, and you are trying to win by lying outright. You sir, are fail. You are so full of fail, if it was a symphony, you would be the conductor. This all leads back to the fact that your analogy is RETARDED. You never asked me a question. You never asked me anything in fact, you just kept saying I proved your horrible shitty analogy correct, when in fact it is the antithesis of correct. Your absolutely pitiful insults and attempts to get me to say something infraction worthy amuse me, because after all it means I am winning by making you take the internet srlsy, since you know, its such serious business. Give up, there is no hope for you. We all know the damned, and you are sadly one of them. Damned by your own inability to admit that your analogy was shit. If you were a member of an organization (flat earth comes to mind) you would probably defend it to the death, regardless of how incorrect the idea of a flat earth is.
Corwin do you see the kind of hidden biases some here have to deal with. It sill seems to me like stox had some bad experiences with people of faith, but I would think that growing up as an adult would teach him to get to know all people and get rid of prejudices and ignorant blanket statements like this. These are usually statements of people that are losing debates and start throwing tantrums, but its ok, as I said before what makes dp so awesome is that it allows for so many different opinions. Lets hope that someday he can be a credit to other moderate atheists instead of drawing people away from their cause. As I said many times I have many friends who are people of faith and atheists and we have never endedup using broad general statements like this to put each other down. No matter what our differences are we still believe in the brotherhood of man. By the way Corwin, I totally agree with you on your statement about consciousness, and I also believe that this is the awakening of the human soul as god gave this to us.
@Jackuul, you seem to have the distorted impression that you can substitute and cover up your lack of intelligence with rudeness and insults. You may be saddened to know that I pass by your poor substitute for wit by looking for substance. As before, you have not only ignored the question, but you're desperately trying to change the subject by distracting us with your smelly diarrhea of words. Isn't working. But hey, keep throwing those insults! It helps us to get to know you better and the world you live in. "Consciousness" is the issue here. It's all about consciousness. The fact that you have refused to acknowledge, ignored, and blatantly lied about the issue betrays your fear of the subject. As you obviously don't have enough personal honor to concede defeat, I'll once again graciously accept your fear of the subject of consciousness as your inability to deal with the subject vis-a-vis atheism. To decide whether there is or is not a God, you must deal with the issue of consciousness. It's about consciousness. Consciousness. Now, please attempt to entertain us with some insults, because your futility is all so amusing. Certainly no one respects you for it. No one will Love you for it. I see that you have ratcheted up your rhetoric of sewage. Does it frustrate you that I seem unaffected by it? No matter, I am strong in Christ - it gives me a confidence that I sincerely and honestly hope that you will experience one day. Can your atheistic stance deal with the issue of Consciousness? No, I deliberately haven't fully explained the issue, I'm wondering if you fully understand it's impact on whether or not there is a God. On a side note - and I like to ask this of atheists, because it is a sincere interest of mine - there is a line out of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy that I like to ask atheists, and please be honest with your answer: "Would you rather be happy, or right?" Go with God.
I'm in disbelief at your failure at trying to change the issue. I really am. I even provided a quote. You're changing it to be about consciousness, when in fact the human mind being alive, and conscious, is covered by what I said. You are the one ignoring things, you are ignoring that my issue has always and was always with the analogy. Where you get off saying otherwise boggles me, since I have clearly focused on the poor excuse of an analogy, and tried to ignore your babbling about other nonsense. You truly show your lack of intellectual honesty, and integrity by not addressing the original point of the conversation at which I entered. A light bulb is a bad analogy. You've been trying to change this, you have been trying to mislead this, and now I must concede that you are so delusional that it is impossible to have any kind of discussion with you. If you want to continue to spew forth lies, half-truths, and otherwise to play a game of "gotcha" over the things not related to the light bulb analogy, you go right on ahead and keep flogging around the issue. It's sad to see some people who are just so wrapped up in their own little beliefs that any attempt to jar them back to the original purpose and topic will merely make them go off on tangents unrelated. You Nehemiah go enjoy that circle jerk, because underneath you know there is no way that the light-bulb analogy works, and furthermore you know the moment you are dead you are worm food. Nehemiah, you're a sycophant. I.E. you are blatantly sucking rooster in this topic. Please, don't be a rooster-sucker. Ganging up on someone on an internet forum does not make your righter. It makes you less-likable and less-credible than you already are. Additionally, if you think that my response to ncz_nate and stOx was a tangent, honey, you have some issues to work out on how an internet forum works. You can have more than one conversation at a time, but when you're single minded, it's probably hard to understand that. So I maintain, as I have from the very beginning of the topic: The light-bulb analogy is bunk Give up. You already lost. You lost back on page 7. You've just been digging that grave a little deeper, and giving the undertaker a few extra nails, and he doesn't need any more.
Well that's an interesting intrepretation. I'm wondering what "life experiences" led you to the fact that God couldn't exist? Death in family? Terrible injustice? Or are you watching CNN everyday and asking yourself why on earth would a God create this? thanks...
you mean would I like to convince myself of something I know not to be true on the grounds that it makes me feel better? Absolutely not. That would make me a fantasist in denial. Is that what you are saying you have done? Convinced yr self of something you know isn't true?
Yeah, but Corwin really cleaned your clock; and nothing you can label me as is going to change that. You can whine like. . .oh well, never mind that; Who's "ganging up on someone"? And who is the "someone" that you're referring to? Seems to me, as long as you're a part of the "ganging", you're happier than a dung beetle in a port-a-potty at the Ann Arbor Art Fair; but when you're the ganged, my-oh-my, listen at the baby cry. But he really cleaned you clock though. . .and your anger and insults prove it. Kinda made you feel like you were hanging out with those dung beetles, huh? BTW, if your light bulb ain't screwed in tight (i.e. having a loose connection), it ain't gonna glow (be conscious). So try standing up now, and turning around a couple times, tightening the connection, until you start glowing (become conscious).
He did nothing but clog up the holes even more. I have yet to see myself as having my "clocked cleaned". Just because you say an apple is an orange doesn't change reality, which you left years ago.
Neither, ive just did alot of studying, and realize the most factual logical thing that happens to anything that passes away.
