    HI,
I've just registered a new domain for a new directory of mine, i've bought a phpld license without linkback to phpld and bought a custom template. Now I was wondering to make the directory free or paid? If a Paid directory what pricing should I give?
    Thanks

Offer free submissions for at least week IMO ;) Then turn it into paid directory.

If you seriously going to promote it : Make it a paid directory..

Allow some submissions for free for few days OR add some authority sites yourself.

Ask yourself one question: how motivated will you stay when you're getting no money and you're forced to look at garbage websites all day?

Meditate on this for one hour and you'll have your answer ;)

Start free but reject unmercilously. If your dir turns to spam you just wasted all your $.

If you feel that you may want to turn it into paid sometime after i would advise making it a paid directory from the beginning, one reason im thinking of is that you may be submitting it to directories as free then eventually switch to paid and you have all of the listings in the wrong categories in directories.

Through my experience, i intended to and kept my directories adsense free, nice and clean and very tightly edited, started them all free, in a nutshell, absolute nightmare trying to keep up with that, you get a flood of submissions and they keep on coming, if your reviewing as slowly and carefully as i do then you can imagine the backlog that it takes.

Whole days can be taken up dealing with submissions in free directories, unless you let allsorts in.

As someone pointed out and i see quite often, you can always let in the first 300,500,1000, whatever you feel like as free to help populate and then completely paid from then on.

Just my own experiences and thoughts but dont neccessarily follow it if your not happy doing it that way. :)

Start it with free (possibly 01 or 02 links per catagory). After you have most catagories fillwed with some content youc an convert it to paid. Remember that converting to paid does not guarantee you more submissions. You should submit to other free and paid directories and gain good, PR, PS, & backlinks.

    Hello...

You have already done more then most do when it comes to New Paid directories.

    1. Custom template
    2. No link Back

But i must agree you should get a little practice so to speak before you just go paid
as not many others know you here and would be sceptical on adding sites to someone that dont know...

I also suggest you get yourself some backlinks now and start advertising
    and promoting.

    thx

I started out Overdrive Directory paid and added some sites by myself, but I would have a lot of free submission periods that filled up the categories. I found this to work very well, but that is just from personal experience!

How about this, make them free for categories that still have less links in it. If a category reach the max link you specified, it switched to paid.
Ex : If a category still have less than 10 links, then it free. If already have 10 or more links, then it paid.

Not sure if this good idea or not.
