well just godaddy is trying to improve the sales doesnt mean .co is going to become bigger than .net and neways isnt .co a country level domain of Colombian
Then the .CO in .CO.UK .CO.JP ..ect means that Colombia is part of the United Kingdom... Japan... ect ?
why are u comparing a top level domain with a second level domain ??? .co.uk is a second level extension to .uk neways if you have high hopes for .co its good for you... best of luck
I personally would decide to go with another domain as it would not be personal if the owner of .com uses his. If you still want to use another domain then I would suggest using .net as it is the second most popular.
Yes, I completely agree as its a costly TLD and famous so they list it second and make $$$$ .not for TLD importance.
.COM costed $75/yr in the 90's and it was considered non-important back them. .COM was not created to be a COMmercial extension. It was later branded as the commercial extension because of the number of businesses that used it as such. In the 80's .COM was considered as a "command" extension.
So you are comparing domaining and internet today with 30 yrs ago? .com is the first TLD created don't forget this small detail. Can you explain me the meaning of why .co was created?
.CO existed way before the internet: Nobody used .COM in the 18th century. .COM is just a command extension and .NET for networks. An internet design error... like the useless "WWW." .CO was first created by the UK with their .CO.UK... that was way before colombia got their ccTLD. .COM was not created to be a COMmercial extension. It was later branded as the commercial extension in 1995 because of the number of businesses that used it as such. Back in 1995 there were talks in the community whether .com or .co should be launched as the commercial main top level domain. Why .com instead of .co? .co is even one character less and just as easy to remember. After the initial rejection, the idea behind .co stuck however, and many country hostmasters introduced later their top level domain with .co. To name a few; co.uk, co.in, co.hu etc. Anyway, justice for all, now 15 years later .co is finally launched for the general public on 20th July 2010. the timing of the .co domain launch is perfect. The well of good .com domains has dried up with 150 million registered .com domains since 1995. If you start searching for a .com domain for your new company website, new blog or new product it is practically impossible to find any 1-5 letter character combination with .com. So what do you do? Ignore the snappy name on your wish list and go for a longer .com domain, try to buy the domain from the original registrant or look for another top level domain where it is available? .co is an obvious alternative. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Company
"Back in 1995 there were talks in the community whether .com or .co should be launched as the commercial main top level domain." You are wrong! It wasn't on 1995 but 2001 and that's logic that Government of Colombia objected that stupid idea. (reminding also IANA codes .co as country code top-level domains on 24 December 1991) There are some countries that restrict the registration of the direct top level domain ccTLD (like .uk) and create subdomains (second level domains) for public registration, depends on the country choice between .co.xx or .com.xx (when .xx is the country code top level domain) and .co./.com. is used for Commercial entities and purposes. I don't see the point in connecting "commercial" the meaning of .com/.com./.co. (NOT .co as it is just columbia nothing else) with company with the abbreviation co.? I think you know the difference between them.... Forget all the advertisement regarding .co is just a way of marketing to sell the product, just .me, .tel etc did. Good luck
.co is hype and .net is much better in the long run that .co So unless you have something you really want to try to brand with a hack using co for company or something you are better to stick with what works. .com > .net / .org are your best options for extensions to stick with in general.. Unless you are doing something GEO
wrong-go to my site-check the age-bob-o.co-and look who can only afford to advertise-to the right of my number one site-500,000,000 pages.every.co i bought-went to number one-five times faster than any of my 1400 sites.
would someone please tell me why-my site-jupiterislandtrading.com-has microsoft-advertising at the top of my first page?
i just registered a .ME domain name, did I make a mistake? seems like a decent domain , any one else have a .ME domain
If the .net and .co are available you most certainly take the .net at this point. I can't even begin to fathom why anyone would recommend otherwise. .Net is an accepted top TLD extension by the general public, and it ranks as a top level TLD. Your consumers don't see .net as a "network" and .co as a "company", they see .net as something legitimate that they recognize, and they don't even know what the hell a .co is.
I will say go with .co for many reasons... one of them .co could easy stand for a company, etc.. I like how some people still talk about Columbia when .co is only gaining more exposure everyday. If you don't believe it check out this current photo/Ad: http://i.imgur.com/95mJT.jpg I'm sure you can figure out that it is taken in Time Square, New York and not in Bogota Columbia. Good luck
