Go Daddy Hidden Procedures Protected Status

If you don't want to renew a domain registered with Go Daddy you have to fill in a form and supply a colour copy of your passport or driving licence. If this is not done then Go Daddy will remove money from your account. How come it is so easy to register domains but difficult to cancel them? How come none of this is mentioned when setting up domains? Has Go Daddy Gone Baddy?

While I am not aware of them wanting a passport or driving licence to cancel, if you used PayPal can't you disable the automatic payment feature for GoDaddy. If you used a bank card or credit card, ring your provider and say you refuse to let GoDaddy charge it and they will deal with it. I also think there is a feature to disable auto renew.

Wasn't aware of that with GoDaddy though, guessing it is a "security" feature to make sure people really want to delete their domains.

That's odd. If you don't want to renew a domain name, you just leave it alone.

Do you have other services with them like, say, protected registration? Or do you want to delete a domain name that's still paid for?

It seems that if domains have protected status that GoDaddy will take payment from the account that paid. They have told me that to remove protected status they will need a colour copy of my passport. Only after receiving that will they not take the money from my account. Also, what they are planning on taking is much more than I paid initially. Definitely Gone Baddy

That's the case if you purchased their protected registration service, which sounds like it here.
For those wondering, here's what it is:

I guess you didn't intend to purchase that service begin with, but somehow did?

It's not right to keep that kind of useful info from their clients. if Go Daddy have what it takes to answer the best as they claim, let them show it.

Heh, I can't tell you how many examples in my ex-registrar life where we put out info as much
as we can yet some people just...don't...read or look closely enough.

If they do so , that mean it become not worth to get cheap domain from them while you need so many procedure to cancel a domain and you explore your identity to them which not safe.
Did you ask what the reason they need those details for ?

I have many thousands of domains with godaddy and NEVER have this problem. Domains expire ... I cancel domains... I have nothing on auto renew. There is no problem with Godaddy.

He signed up and paid for special protection and now is upset it works. Of course they want to be sure he is who he says he is, otherwise, their protection could be cancelled by anyone spoofing an email.

all you have to do is to turn auto-renewal off and let it expire
