Hi guys well i have a problem, my domain was supposed to be renewed today on the 18th which in the UK it still is the 18th and Godaddy wont let me renew it.

The payment process goes through then i get to "checkout now" and it says my account is closed or something is wrong?

What the hell do i do, i need the domain name, it holds my main website which i have built up over the last 9 months.

It says on an email i have received if i dont renew it there will be a $80 reactivation fee! how harsh is that...idiots.

Anyone got a clue of what i do?

    Please i am desperate

Pay $80 or wait to get your domain back either chasing for it of via other company's backorder.

I lost a German and a UK domains once because they started by sending emails to make me aware the renewal is close.

If you don't pay attention to them you will find this sad result since there are certain domains for which they don't wait until the very last day and, of course, they do not give you the benefit of the 30-day period of grace.

No idea why this strange issue applies only to "certain domains" and not to all though.

Sorry to hear you lost your domain.:(

See it often. When 'X' minute of your registration comes up, the name reverts back into the open market for whoever wants it. Unless you pay the reactivation fee. Amount varies with registrars.

You can put in a backorder or drop order and try to get it back in a couple of months. If it's a 'good' name, it could go to auction and winner will be high bidder.

Is this an automated renewal or a manual one ? If it is automated renewal then call Godaddy and square the issue up. If it was manual, it could have been better if you renew at least a week or two before the domain name expires to prevent any mess up.

Some how? i have just got the domain back and renewed for the norma price of $9.19 :D i do not know how this has worked but i did.

Thank you guys for your support, i did not get much sleep thinking that all my hard work would be ripped away from me in the next 30 days waiting to get the domain back.

I am currently changing all my domains to Auto Renew so this never happens again :D

Glad to hear your domain is back, I only experienced that happy end as RegisterFly's customer but getting GoDaddy doing that is something out of this world but really good :)

You could consider renewing for more than 1 year so you do no need to worry for a while. Most of my domain names are registered for at least the next 5 years.

With GoDaddy, I believe there is a discount if you renew for longer than 1 year.

you are really lucky that you didnt get ripped by godaddy.... because godaddy is famous for selling your own domain to you at really high price.... also godaddy security dept. are bunch of lamers who dont know how to open a photo... they rip me big time just by suspending my domain only because i change my paypal email address.... and when i send them my photo ID proof, in the email, they customer care didnt know how to downlaod the attachment.... i still have there emails somewhere inside my inbox.... where i have proof how they said they dont know how to open the photo inside the zip...=)) so i lost faith on godaddy... so be careful you may not be lucky next time...

I know you already have it sorted but I did want others to know that not getting to a domain renewal on exactly the renewal date isn't the end of the world. I've waited with tons of domains because I'd either forgotten about them or wasn't sure I wanted to renew before changing my mind at the last possible chance and renewing it. Godaddy sends you a final-final-final email to give you a last chance at renewal and even after that chance passes, so long as it's showing in your control panel you should be able to manually renew it.

Don't always trust auto-renew - with any Registrar - it doesn't always work. You should ALWAYS check periodically to make certain things are going as they are supposed to.

I chanced upon two domains in the last couple of days that were set to autorenew with different Registrars and whaddya know? They hadn't autorenewed but were actually in redemption. No biggie. I manually renewed them but if it had been a couple of weeks from now they would have gone.

Thanks for that mate, i will make sure i check in future even if my domains are on auto renew. I too thought i could renew my domain after the expiration period was over however perhaps due to some coincidental account errors it was not allowing me to complete the check out stages and was coming back as an error.

So quick note: Do not leave it TOO late as this could happen, there could be errors with in the system, or perhaps your internet could go down, you never know.

    Will.

However there is a fact when it comes to automatic renewals.

It will not work if you don't keep enough Paypal balance or credit card funds available, so just keep this in mind ;)
