About how many people here use Gmail? How many want to?

Also, does anyone know any stats on how many users Gmail has in total?

    Thanks!

I have Gmail. I just use it for newsletters and such, since I really don't want to tell everyone I know to change my email address.

I use Gmail, so far only for selling my car.
I got a notice because I've been signed up with Blogger for so long.
Now Gmail is letting us invite some friends to use Gmail.
I've invited myself to use Gmail for my business, and one friend.

And since I don't have many friends I still have one invite left.
I think I will invite my mom, she deserves better than Yahoo Mail. :)
    Don't we all?
Not that yahoo or hotmail is bad, just that it's so crowded with ads and seems so played out. I like Gmail's look, even though they scan my emails and target my ads accordingly, it just means I might actually click on it, and that they are different for every email, so I don't have to stare at HP ads for the next week straight.

    Anyone else use Gmail?

I haven't yet been invited to the program, even though I signed up for notification on day one. I've also been a Blogger member for quite a while. Not sure why I haven't been invited, but I would love an invite ;) :p

I've never seen an answer for this, so maybe someone could fill me in:

how exactly CAN they offer a gigabyte of storage? that's got to be expensive- really, really expensive.

just the fact that they can store and display millions and millions and millions of pages- may 100KB- so fast always seemed amazing to me.

Well most won't use that much, and they know it.

If they have 1,000,000 users, I'm pretty certain they don't have 1,000 TB of storage, although truthfully, they might. Storage is pretty cheap. I'm sure they simply add storage space as needed (based on usage, not users).

even if they are making an insane amount, it still seems like an absurd amount of storage would be needed. even if you had it, I'd think that access times would be an issue, too..

I use Gmail and have afforded a couple of my friends the opportunity. I use about half of what they allow. It is actually a handy little system. Problem though, I do not want to be served ads based upon content of emails. I received and email from my mother, next thing I knew, it was almost mothers day (even though it had passed). I don't like the idea of the ads. That seems like and invasion of privacy, but better I use their servers for storage then my own.

I don't think it's an invasion of privacy any more than any other email provider scanning your email to see if it's spam or has a virus in it.

When it comes down to it, it's the same thing. It's a computer scanning your email looking for certain things, so it can perform some sort of action based on the content of the email.

I have no problem with a computer scanning my emails, it is just when they start using it to do other things.

What are the privacy issues with G-Mail? Do you they only search for keywords to base the ads on, or are they gonna scan for other stuff too?

Like the concept -- using just over 1 percent doubt if I'll ever get to 20% -- and the AdWords don't bother me. The system is MUCH faster than Hotmail (talk about ads!!) and did anyone mention it's free. I've invited three to use the system.

G-mail isn't an invasion of privacy- what the hell are you so worried about? It baffles me when people worry about Google reading their mail as if some person is going through and manually adding the ads to each page..
