Let me introduce a little about myself, I am a fourth year Computer Engineering student from Turkey, and I am supposed to write a POP client as network lecture project, but I am having some trouble with signing in to the pop server, I want to know how to login to gmail's pop server (pop.gmail.com : 995) . I tried to login with username : and password, but it didnt work, i tried only my account name as a username and my password, again it didnt work, what ' s wrong ? Do I have to encrypt my password then write it to socket? Thank You...

I had a terrible time getting Eudora to work with Gmail. There are a few issues that you need to get by:

    1. Alternate ports. The pop and smtp servers use alternate ports. Try 995 for pop and 465 for smtp

    2. SSL. Secure Socket Layer is required for pop and smtp. You may need their SSL certificates for POP and SMTP.

    3. Authentication is required on send and receive. User name is .

    Hope this helps.
