Intially it was opened for US only. Now Gmail has opened it for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, as well as in Brazil, Australia, Russia and Japan. In India you still need an invitation.

Up till I read this thread I'd have given mine away too...now I'd rather sell them (and I'd sell them cheap) sadly though, I don't think I'd make much with the thing going public & all...and here I was one of the few, the proud, the gmail users *sigh* Q
I got my first invitation from gmailswap.com After I started building up accounts and invites I then traded them to people on the same website. The two most rememberable things I got were a homemade candle from Canada and a $5 Dinar's, (Iraq money with Saddam's picture on it.) from a solder serving over there. (I ended up sending him almost 50 invitations because that money was so awesome.)
i have 50 invitations left. PM me anyone who interested to get invitation. There'll be a deal much cheaper..
Gmail is released for everyone, atleast the link worked for me (swedish), so try it out and tell me if it works.
I don't think so, I didnt find any sign up button on it. Through the link you mentioned, yes they do have a signup button but thats not working. thats taking me to the signin page
There is Gmail signup button on the adwords (and i think on Google docs as well) signup page for months now, thats no big news....
now as soon as they get the Hosted Mail out of beta I'll be happy...we ran out of our alloted mail space right quick!
I've just been on the Google.co.uk site and you can now get a Googlemail account without being invited.
