So, You go to a forums and you can infut your MSN ID, Yahoo! ID and SIM ID...

You go to your PC and you sign in to any one of the services offered by these various companies... I wonder how long it will be before we see a Gmail messenger service...

With Puffin in the back of my mind, it makes me think that Google are looking for worldwide domination...

I hadn't really thought about a Gmail messenger service until 5 mins ago (I'm slow like that ; ), but it really is enevatable...

    What are your thoughts?

Indeed, the same thought occured to me a few days ago.

Messenger with real time adsense ads interpreting your conversation. Technically possible I reckon but will again spark a discussion I guess.

You are probably right in that they will go after the same products simply to because they tie in with what they offer now, and it's what their competitors do.

    We'll see what happens!

    I don't think they'd do this.
Would the adsense ads refresh at every message you send?
That would be a whole lot of queries to their adsense databse. I'm sure as GMail takes off they'd get a whole bunch of queries as it is.

I don't think it'd be worth it to Google if there was that much traffic for conversations that were probably 70% of the time short and sweet like:
    You: Hey
    Friend: Hi
    You: how's it going?
    Friend: good, and you?
    You: great, thanks for asking
Friend: so what are you doing later?
You: not much, we might go out, but not sure where.
    Friend: oh really?

    See what I mean?
Maybe in a GMail chat room adsense might work, because there could be actual topical information.
    - Oh boy, then I just got a picture of spammers going to these chat rooms on purpose to talk about "atlanta real estate" a lot so the adsense is forced to show ads for atlanta real estate. :p

GMail messenger might be cool, but adsense in it, wouldn't work IMHO. ;)

Most likely there would have to be a client side filter for all those common "Hi, how are you, are you home, wanna cyber.." *shudders*- words and phrases.

Then, when a real keyword came up, that's when the ads would show up. So maybe one or 2 or five per minute - not that much different than a browsing session.

Unfortunately, if you were having a conversation about a death in the family, or some other kind of sensitive subject, you might see ads like these:

    Hmmmm....

Funny example! My personal favorite is the "do pets go to heaven?" ad.

in the same lines.. quite a few months back in my gmail spam folder i saw a lot of context sentive ads for viagra, sex etc ... The spammers sent all these mails and when google marked them as spams ... the ads based on spam mails should not have been shown. Any minor getting spam mails ... will be shown all these ads !! Mailed the gmail guys and got a reply in a month ... i think they have taken care of it (those days logged a few bugs just to get a few invites for friends :) ) ..

    Threadmine!

Google promises we will never see ads in Talk! - Any bets on how long till they change that (or incorporate it into another "Desktop" app and add ads)?
