They've been having problems all morning, so much for it being that fantastic...I just switched back to horrible hotmail. While in beta, don't rely on it for important things, obviously.
I had problems with it myself earlier. They kept on telling me to try again in 30 seconds.. but so far, I have nothing but thumbs-up for gmail. If I go an hour without being able to read my mail on a Sunday morning, WTF.. The Sunday crossword puzzle is gonna kick my ass for a lot longer than that! And what is "important"? I have tons of IM's, more email addresses than even the best spammer can keep track of (BTW, I am one of the very BEST spammers, when I put my mind to it) and this thing called a 'telephone' when push comes to shove. As an aside, I started to broadcast me gmail addy this morning.. I'll let you know how they handle spam which I think is very important.
so far the spam function is great. still thumbs up for gmail for me too, i understand that they are in beta and that i can live without email for an hour, but the problem is that when they are down, you don't know 1) for how long, 2) if you care gonna get the emails that came in during the down time, and 3) if the emails you have archived will be there later... i made it part of my procedure to pop3 in and download a copy and also had a copy of all emails send to a secondary location, just in case.
I trust the BRAINS at Google.. I don't think there's any way possible that mail is gonna be 'lost' (I used to admin an extremely busy network.. I know all my transactions were failsafed and I ain't nearly as smart as the *junior* floor sweeper at Google). Have you seen any discrepancies yet? I'm interested to know..
I'm definitely missing AT LEAST four emails from during the down time and they must still be having some problems because I am missing AT LEAST 6 from 1:09 pm to 3:48 pm today. These are orders from my ecommerce site. Everything prior to the downtime seems to still be there.
OUCH! I would definately have some sort of backup system in place. Maybe recording the transaction in a local (on server) database as well as sending an email confirmation would keep you safe?
Yeah I used to have that problem pretty often with Gmail; my friends would ask me why I didn't respond to their emails, and other people too. Though it seems the error has been fixed recently, because I don't hear anything about mails to what I didn't respond (or actually never received). It's also quite irritating that there aren't any functions to make contact-groups of certain people you know, you have to pik them out and remember all of their names.
Yes, thankfully I still get all the orders through my admin, the emails are just notifications to me, but that's how I realized that I wasn't getting them. It's still sporadic sometimes, but still good. The inquiry emails from customers at that time, I don't know what came through and what didn't. So, now I have a courtesy copy sent to a hotmail account and they just collect there as a backup.
A google search for "free gmail invites" shows these shouldn't be too difficult to get. It was a little crazy when they were harder to obtain.
check out isnoop.net/gmail/ And they used to be big- I got my gmail there! Seems google got bored of people abusing their signup!
Is there anyone on the planet who does not have at least 50 gmail invites spare? Or am I just a geek with too many email addresses and not enough friends?
I keep on sending them out but the next day I'm back up to 50 , I can never prove to myself that I have 50 friends.
