    I guess what he meant with the Good or Bad Ip's was the fact that in some countries where there is a higher percentage of Spam email accounts being made, Google Asks for SMS Verification :)

    Everyone its using and abusing from gmail accounts! everyone can use the smtp gmail servers to send spam! and because almost everyone have a gmail account! google should start controlling! i think that send a sms or postal letter with a code its good ideia!

    What if someone does not have a phone or lives somewhere where phones are not available (e.g. north pole, etc)

    Does that need that you need to buy a phone to use gmail?

    Anyways i didn't have to do any verification and i hope it stays that way...

    I have faced the same thing here. But i dont' think that the requirement of activation code via SMS to your mobile phone means that Gmail is not free. But the problem is that i am not sent the activation code.
