Yeah of course dude.. You are not alone(according to MJ)
they're now asking for a confirmation code..
So it really means that it's quite to be considered as not free account creation..
    What do yo think?

Gmail is free, but if your IP ban, then google send verify thru mobile. Try to choose right country or use different IP if possible.

If anything, the SMS verifications are a good thing. I'm sick of Gmail accounts being used by spammers on my site.

It's about time they did something.

This has been in use for quite sometime, apart from that it does not mean that GMail is no longer free, it'll always be free as far's i can tell, the main advantage with a TxT verification is to prevent spammers and i think Google is doing it's best to do so :)

I guess Google just uses the verification in such a scenario where a high number of spammers are coming from one specific countries domain, i guess that's why people get the verification requirement.

GMail is 100% Free, I don't think google would want to loose a heap of users just to earn an extra buck or two.

lol, how you think that its not free ?

There is no harm in taking phone number to prevent spam. But gmail never said that you will need to pay for that.
    You are dumb, i think.

I think its a new security step by google .. I dint experience something like that but it is not strange if you find something like that .. I see regular changes in yahoo or other sites .. THEY KEEP CHANGING THEIR SECURITY METHODS FOR BETTER CUSTOMER COMPLIANCE ..

Due to the massive automated Gmail account creation programs and services out there, I am sure that is why Google to go for the SMS validation.
