Gmail Guide For Webmasters (With More Than One Email Address)

Create custom folders (labels) so that all emails to goes to folder "x" and all emails to go to folder "y".

If you have more than one website, then the chances are you have more than one email address. Many people who use Gmail and have many websites simply forward to , usually using the Cpanel mail forwarding settings, however this guide will show you how to get the most out of your gmail account for use with many other email addresses.

Setting Up ...

First up lets setup a mail forwarder in cpanel (site.com/cpanel). Go to Mail > Forwarders and then create an address and forward to your gmail account.

So now all emails to will forward to my gmail address. But wait a sec, I can't reply using , if I replied it would send from which is unprofessional and may confuse somebody.

In order to reply from we need to setup an account in gmails settings. [Go to Settings > Accounts > Add another email address] and then add your sites email address like I have done:

And then follow the steps and click the link in the confirmation email.

Now go to [Settings > Accounts] and select: Reply from the same address the message was sent to.

Basically when someone sends you an email to , when you reply it automatically replies from the email address it was sent to, and not your default gmail address, just saves you the hassle of having to change the email address when replying.

Now we will create a custom label (acts like a folder) so that when someone sends an email to it goes to a seperate folder "site.com". This keeps everything really organised and seperated from the rest of your mail.

Create a label [Settings > Labels]

Now click "create a filter" (link is next to the search bar).

Then click "next" and choose the label you just created and then your finished.

Now test it, i'll send an email to

Also in your labels box it tells you you have (1) new email too!

Also, gmail has a nifty feature meaning you can manually select which email address to send/reply from!
